This book deals with an issue that I have never come across before in a romance novel. That is the infidelity of the heroine. Usually in romance novels, its a real turn off to find out either the hero or the heroine had strayed to ‘greener pastures’. Most of the time rather than actually actually committing the act of infidelity, there is a misunderstanding between the hero and the heroine which is always later resolved in the novel. However it is not the case in the story of Katie and Cutter.

In the first book of this series which I didn’t read but was able to make out what happened by reading this book, Katie sleeps with Justin Cruz, now husband of Cutter’s sister Dani Standifer. Although Katie was in a relationship with Cutter at that time, no matter how wrong infidelity is, Katie was feeling vulnerable and alone cos Cutter wouldn’t really open up to her and give her what she needed.

Katie has regretted sleeping with Justin from the moment Cutter finds out what happened between the two. Resolving never to let Katie into his life again, which is a bargain he has held till now, seeing Katie gatecrash Dani’s wedding party is the last straw for Cutter. Thinking Katie had come to mourn over Justin, Cutter treats Katie like trash and takes what he has always wanted from her. Katie gives herself to Cutter thinking that she might get a second chance to work things out with him if she lets him have his way with her.

These two embark on a purely sexual relationship, the consequence of which renders Katie pregnant. I felt that this story was too rushed and thus the resolving of the conflict between Katie and Cutter didn’t quite give the satisfaction that I was craving as the reader. This story would have been much better and a more memorable one if the author had taken time to actually develop Katie and Cutter’s characters a bit more and resolve the trust issues Cutter had with Katie in a more believable manner rather than just all of a sudden confessing that he loves Katie and wants her to be his wife.

Anyhow okay for a quick read that doesn’t require much thinking on the reader’s part.

Lisa Marie Rice writes wonderful stories with strong alpha heroes that fall so deeply in love with the heroine that it moves the reader deeply. This book is in no way an exception to the rule.

Where Allegra Ennis is beautiful, cultured and talented, Douglas is a former SEAL, tough as nails and scarred from his various battles for his country. As much as people are drawn to Allegra and her beauty and her amazing music, people tend to stay away from Douglas and look the other way and walk away rather than be in his presence. Which has suited Douglas just fine until he first hears the haunting notes of beautiful music that Allegra makes.

Allegra has known her fair share of grief and sorrow. With a talent that could have taken her places in the world, all of it was destroyed in one night when her father was brutally murdered and Allegra beaten so much that she was rendered blind with her memory blocked of the events that took place that night so that her father’s murderer got away on an insanity plea and landed up in a psychiatric institution for the rich.

From the harrowing first moments during which Allegra and Douglas bond, over to the way in which these two souls find the one thing they have both been yearning for in each other, this read is at times sweet, hot and thrilling at the same time. Allegra’s father’s murderer puts his final plan in motion to kill and eliminate Allegra once and for all, and its Douglas who literally moves heaven and earth to keep his precious Allegra safe.

A good read, recommended for those who love romances with a bit of a thriller in the mix.

Review: Night Angel by Renee Reeves

This book kept popping up as a deeply loved romance by a lot of readers in many a discussion forums on Amazon. I managed to grab a copy of this and I have to say that based on the nature of the theme of this romance as well this book being the first of the author, this was an okay read for me.

Nick Evanoff, an ex-convict who served time for murder, is a horse trainer who treats abused horses and redefines the word ‘patience’ throughout this novel. Morgan, a woman who has been beaten and scarred emotionally and physically by her now dead husband, settles down in the neighboring cottage on Nick’s land.

Nick catches the first glimpse of this lone and battered woman sitting near a lake on his property and feels an undeniable pull towards Morgan. However when Nick gets to meet Morgan and realizes what she has gone through, although they both cannot deny the effect they have on one another, Nick deems himself unworthy of someone like Morgan and though Nick slowly and excruciatingly wins over the trust and love of Morgan, the crust of their problems in the end lies within the fact that Nick cannot make himself tell Morgan why he was labelled as an ex-convict in the first place.

Although many readers seemed to have found a ‘calling’ within themselves answered in this book, I found it at times excruciating to read just how much patience Nick had to put into woo Morgan. But then again the amount of abuse that was heaped upon Morgan, described in vivid details at times makes it all understandable at some point. But then again, I am not someone who is patient even when the need arises for me to be and maybe that’s why I didn’t feel that sense of having read a gut wrenching & heart warming story when I finished this novel. And maybe, just maybe it had something to do with the fact that Nick continues to be the one who gives and gives in this story and Morgan when at the last moment at first judges Nick when she knows firsthand that Nick deserves the benefit of the doubt, I think that made me a bit peeved with Morgan that made this novel earn not such a good place on my keeper shelf.

This is the first book ever that I tried out of this author. This book is one sure red hot read that the author pulls off quite nicely. I think this is the last book released of the rough riders series and features the lone girl in the McKay family. Keely who wants to earn her own place in their close knit society rather than been remembered as a hell raiser when she was younger.

Jack, best friend of one of Keely’s brother, had always seemed to rub her the wrong way. Whenever Jack and Keely are in the same room, they manage to insult one another to no end. One hot kiss that Jack and Keely shared at one of her brother’s weddings didn’t seem to make things any better.

Now two years later, Keely needs Jack’s help in finalizing her efforts to start her own rehabilitative clinic and Jack needs Keely to act as his fiancé to pull off a business deal which Jack wants so badly, bad enough to want to pretend to be engaged to Keely and take on being part of the McKay clan.

Although their passion could singe away the bedsheets, out of the bedroom they tend to be as divided as ever. And both of them do not realize that with each moment they spend together inevitably leads them to fall in love with another, a love which they both need to realize is way more important than anything else in their lives.

A very hot read guaranteed to sizzle up your insides ladies!

Review: A Mutual Favor by Ann Jacobs

I went on a hunting binge after reading the last book, to find more books of my favorite theme. I came across this book on Amazon’s recommendation list and since it has got great reviews, thought I would give this book a try.

Dr. Kurt an orthopedic surgeon with a bad divorce under him can’t for the life of him see himself ever married again. And the continuous demand for his time which his first wife had always claimed and he could never give has made him antsy at the thought of being that vulnerable with someone ever again. The only woman he feels comfortable around with enough to drop down his guard and be himself with is his best friend and physiotherapist Shelly Ware. Good at giving mind blowing massages after Kurt spends grueling hours at the surgery, Shelly has always made him feel good about himself and made his problems seem less intense.

Now with the custody of Kurt’s child Jason at a balance, with his ex-wife Adrianna making life hellish for him by revoking visitation rights claiming Kurt doesn’t provide a suitable enough environment for a young boy of 12 years, Kurt is at his wits ends. However, Shelly in a moment of weakness after finding out her sister has ovarain cancer and fearing that at 32 years she is fast losing her chance of ever having children of her own, asks Kurt to donate the sperm for the  baby that she so craves.

Angry at first, Kurt begins to realize that they both could do each other a favor and asks Shelly to marry him. Kurt is forever afraid of a repeat episode of his first marriage taking place but soon finds out that Shelly as his best friend and as the woman who understands him more than anyone else makes a totally different experience of being married to.

Add in a rebellious teenage son to the mix with a complicated pregnancy for Shelly, this story proved to be a good read.

Review: Home For The Holiday by Wendy Stone

A book of my favorite theme, where best friends fall in love, this romance is a heartwarming story filled with love, laughter and happy moments. And of course being of the erotica genre, the sensuality of this novel just scorches the pages. A story told on the  first person basis, which I rarely read, was a good read, almost worth a re-read.

What I loved most about Kenna and Nicky’s story is that their story is straight forward with no silly misunderstandings to undermine what they feel for each other. Each of them lays out in the open how they feel about one another, such that no trivial misunderstandings take place to make the reader scream in frustration.

The story starts off when Kenna receives an invitation from her mom to come home for the holidays. Kenna has not been home since her fiancé dumped her on her wedding day to marry Kenna’s older sister. With the knowledge that her pregnant sister and cheating ex-fiancé would also be home for the holidays, Kenna asks Nicky to tag along with her pretending to be her boyfriend. But Nicky, who has always wanted the chance to get together with Kenna on more than just a friend basis, jumps at the chance and quickly convinces Kenna to explore what develops between them.

The time spent with Kenna’s family proves to be a wholesome family experience. Even I as the reader, envied the relationship that the author has described with such vivid details on what family life should really be like for all of us. Anyhow, Nicky’s family proves to be of a different breed to Kenna’s horror and finds that Nicky’s mother would try anything, just about anything to get rid of Kenna so that she can always keep Nicky by her side.

This was a lip smacking read and I would recommend it for anyone who loves a romance with a healthy dosage of sensuality added to the mix.

Review: The Year of Living Shamelessly by Susanna Carr

Being the first book that I tried of this author and I would have to say I absolutely loved every bit of this book.

Katie has been in love with Ryder ever since like in forever. Ryder is best friends with Katie’s brother and has always been an integral part of Katie’s family. Being abandoned by his mother when he was quite young, Ryder feels that he is unlovable and although he desires for Katie, Ryder believes that once Katie really gets to know him, she too wouldn’t want anything to do with him.

Katie tries on many unsuccessful attempts to make Ryder notice her as a woman so that they could both embark on the journey of their lives together. However, Ryder proves a tough nut to crack. Embarking upon this journey together with Katie are her two likable best friends Melissa and Hailie and their many attempts together makes for a laughable rendezvous.

Ultimately, Ryder makes plans to move to Dubai and leave everyone of his hometown behind, because Katie seems to grow more desirable every day and Ryder doesn’t want to ever break the promise he made to himself in that he would never take what Katie is offering ever.

So in comes Katie with all the kinky stuff that she can find, persuaded by Ryder’s ex-lovers that that’s what he is into. And I  had so much fun finding out that Katie goes through all those painstaking hours of research for nothing, when it turns out, Ryder just wants Katie as she is.

This book is a great romance with hot and steamy interludes between Katie and Ryder with a lot of laugh aloud moments which I am sure any reader of romance books would appreciate.

This book does open up the possibility of a good romance novel between Hailie and Katie’s brother and I really do hope that Susanna Carr writes up as good a romance for those two as she had done for Katie and Ryder.

Review: Guilty Needs by Shiloh Walker

Shiloh Walker is absolutely one of my most favourite authors. Her books have a fantastic mix of emotions that can make you really cry, and throw into this wonderful sexy characters who know what they want and aren’t afraid to go after what they want. This is the THIRD time that I have read this book and it wouldn’t be a lie to say that I will most probably read this book again in the near future cos I just can’t seem to get enough of this wonderful story.

Bree, Colby and Alyssa are the main characters in this story. Bree and Alyssa have been the best of friends since childhood rather like sisters to one another. Colby is the shy introvert who bloomed late in life. Alyssa and Bree both notices him in high school, but Alyssa is the one who ends up going after him and eventually marries him.

All the while Bree, silently loving Colby all her life, stands on the sidelines, envying what Alyssa and Colby have together, but determined not to lose what she has got with Alyssa, never acts on her feelings. That is until, Alyssa gets diagnosed with rapidly advanced cancer and dies leaving behind a devastated husband and a beloved friend in great turmoil with Alyssa’s dying wish which strikes a chord of longing deep within her heart.

Guilty Needs is a very appropriate title for a book that is steeped in unvoiced longings and desires that just creates the most wonderful sexual tension that I absolutely reveled in. Colby finds that he has an attraction, (which is putting it mildly), towards his wife’s best friend which fires up all the guilt inside of him which makes him leave everything behind until he gets himself sorted out. 

This is a really moving story and the passion between these two scorches ones hard disk drives whilst reading. I highly recommend this book for all romance lovers and especially for those who love books from Shiloh Walker. I tell you, you wouldn’t be disappointed.
