Love Potion for the Alpha by Alice Coldbreath is a lighthearted, steamy historical paranormal romance that blends the charm of a medieval setting with the allure of a shape-shifter hero.
Lady Isolde Merrell has always lived in the shadow of her beautiful younger sister, her plump figure and quieter nature leaving her overlooked in society. But when returning warrior and Alpha of the Varkash wolf pack, Jorah Mallon-Garth, comes to town seeking a human bride, Isolde takes matters into her own hands with the help of a lust potion. One impulsive act later, she finds herself wed to the most commanding man she has ever met and on her way to the Winterlands, the seat of his pack.
Jorah, fresh from years of serving the Crown, is ready to settle down. He wants a biddable human wife to warm his bed and bring order to his unruly pack. From the moment he meets Isolde, however, his plans take an unexpected turn. Her soft curves and warmth captivate him in ways he had not anticipated, sparking both desire and an unfamiliar sense of attachment. While Jorah believes himself the unquestioned leader of his people, he quickly learns that his new bride is more than capable of standing her ground and challenging the long-held traditions of the Varkash wolves.
The push and pull between them makes for both humorous and heartfelt moments. Isolde, at twenty-three, is no shrinking violet despite her insecurities. She may have used a love potion to set events in motion, but her natural wit, kindness, and quiet strength win over not only the pack but also the wary Alpha she has married. Jorah, for all his commanding presence, must confront his own preconceptions about what makes a strong mate, especially when faced with a woman who refuses to be simply ornamental.
The romance is heated, with explicit scenes that underline the chemistry between hero and heroine, but the heart of the story lies in the gradual building of trust and respect. Coldbreath also injects a delightful sense of humor into the narrative. Between the culture clash of human and shifter customs, the pack’s reactions to their new Alpha’s mate, and Jorah’s occasional exasperation at Isolde’s unpredictability, there are plenty of moments that made me smile.
What I enjoyed most was the way Jorah comes to see Isolde not as the woman who tricked him into marriage but as the partner he truly needs. Watching him try to convince her of her worth and that she belongs at his side was genuinely endearing. If there is any drawback, it is that the plot itself is fairly straightforward, with little in the way of high-stakes conflict, but that also adds to its warm and comforting charm.
Recommended for: readers who enjoy BBW heroines, historical shifter romances, and Alpha heroes who learn the value of an equal partner.
Final Verdict: Warm, playful, and deliciously steamy, Love Potion for the Alpha is an entertaining blend of medieval romance and werewolf fantasy.
Format: E-Book Read with: Kindle Oasis Length: Novel Genre: Historical Romance POV: Third Person, Dual Series: Wallflowers, #3 Publisher: HarperCollins Hero: Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent Heroine: Evangeline Jenner Sensuality: 🔥🔥🔥 Published On: February 28, 2006 Started On: August 22, 2024 Finished On: September 01, 2024
“Rest, my love. I’m watching over you.”
Lisa Kleypas’s The Devil in Winter is one of those romances that lives up to its reputation. Part of the much-beloved Wallflowers series, this book pairs the most unlikely of couples: Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent, the notorious rake of London society and Evangeline Jenner, the shy, stammering wallflower who finds her voice when it matters most. What begins as a marriage of convenience quickly turns into a deeply emotional journey of trust, desire, and unexpected love.
Sebastian is, at first glance, everything a heroine should avoid; beautiful, charming, dangerously rakish, and almost entirely amoral. He has no illusions about himself, fully embracing his reputation as a seducer and opportunist. Yet beneath that polished veneer is a man weighed down by loss, loneliness, and a desperate need for survival.
Evie, on the other hand, seems meek; timid in society, often overlooked, and emotionally bruised by years of abuse from her family. But she possesses a quiet steel, one that allows her to bargain with the devil himself in order to save her own life and protect her dying father. Together, they make an unexpectedly perfect match: her courage challenges his cynicism, while his charm and intensity bring her out of her shell.
Evie insists on terms of her own when they bargain, most notably, a bold wager of celibacy that forces Sebastian to confront both his appetites and his capacity for commitment. It is here that Kleypas shines; rather than relying solely on Sebastian’s seductive prowess, she gives us a heroine who demands respect, setting boundaries in a way that feels both daring and empowering. The tension between them is electric, their arguments sharp, and their intimacy slow-burning yet deeply passionate.
What I loved most is how Kleypas peels back Sebastian’s layers. He begins as a man who sees women as diversions, yet with Evie, every touch, every exchange, becomes something transformative. Evie, in turn, grows from the overlooked wallflower into a heroine who takes control of her life, her marriage, and her heart. Their dynamic is tender, witty, and full of the kind of emotional vulnerability that makes the story unique.
On one aspect, I can see why Devil in Winter is a novel that many romance readers talk about, Sebastian being a hero that most tend to fall in love with and gush over. While a lot of readers classify him as a villainous hero, for me he was not so much that. I have come across villainous heroes and Sebastian is a tame pussy in comparison. He was of course, a forceful hero in his own way, a man used to leisure and wasting his life, when dire straits forces him to marry for money and in turn finds himself saddled with a wife who demands more than his half-hearted attempt at life.
The Devil in Winter is also often shelved under “reformed rake” romance, and it delivers that trope with intensity and heart. Sebastian’s journey from notorious libertine to devoted husband feels believable because Kleypas does not erase his flaws. She simply shows how love and trust reshape him. Evie’s strength and determination makes her one of Kleypas’s most memorable heroines, a woman who demands not just passion, but respect and equal partnership with the man who owns her heart.
Recommended for: fans of reformed rakes, strong heroines with hidden depths, and historical romances that balance sensuality with genuine emotional growth.
Final Verdict: In Sebastian and Evie’s story, Kleypas delivers a seductive and beautifully crafted tale of a notorious rake transformed into a devoted husband—a romance that both stirs the senses and warms the heart.

Format: E-Book Read with: Kindle Oasis Length: Novel Genre: Contemporary Western Romance POV: First Person, Dual Series: The Sovereign Mountain, #1 Publisher: Self-Published Hero: Gerard Sovereign Heroine: Keira Stowe Sensuality: 🔥🔥🔥 Published On: January 01, 2024 Started On: July 05, 2024 Finished On: July 05, 2024
He’s gentle when he chooses to be and when he doesn’t, it’s the sweetest storm.
Raya Morris Edwards is a new-to-me author. I honestly cannot recall how I stumbled across this number, perhaps it was during one of my never-ending quests to find romances of the darker variety featuring morally grey heroes, which, I’m happy to admit, has become an obsession of mine. My first sampling of Ms. Edwards’ work turned out to be swell in every sense, delivering exactly the kind of brooding, dangerous, and magnetic anti-hero I love to lose myself in.
Set against the stark, snow-swept backdrop of northern Montana, Sovereign is a dark, atmospheric romance that blends obsession, danger, and undeniable passion. At its heart is Keira Stowe, a woman trapped in an abusive marriage and groomed into giving up her family ranch. When tragedy strikes and she finds herself widowed, unprotected, and cornered by her late husband’s ruthless family, her path collides with that of Gerard Sovereign, a man both feared and respected across the land he rules like a king.
Gerard Sovereign is a rancher, very much a morally grey figure. Scarred by his own past and fighting his demons as a recovered addict, Gerard’s world is defined by control, vengeance, and ruthless fairness. But for Keira, he shows a side no one else sees. Obsessed with her from the moment they meet (this happens while she is married), Gerard offers her protection, retribution, and safety, but at the price of total submission. Their relationship soon evolves into one of raw Dom-Sub intensity, full of unique dynamics and emotional vulnerability that makes this story stand out from more formulaic takes on BDSM romance.
Keira, in contrast, is weary yet resilient. For the first time in her life, she finds herself desired, protected, and given the freedom to express who she is. While Gerard demands obedience, he also respects her strength and pushes her to confront her past scars. Their bond is not without doubts; Keira herself is plagued by suspicions that Gerard may have had a hand in her husband’s death, yet she cannot resist the pull of a man who sees her as his equal partner, not just another pawn.
This is a romance carved from the shadows: Gerard’s simmering revenge against Keira’s husband’s family becomes the backdrop of their union, while their growing relationship is tested by power imbalances, secrets, and the ever-present dangers of the Sovereign Mountain. And yet, amidst the vengeance and moral greys, there are moments of tenderness; the way Gerard cares for Keira during her most vulnerable moments, or how his kisses are like fine art (I swear that is how I felt when I was reading them), that softens the edges of his otherwise relentless dominance.
What I loved most was the unapologetic portrayal of Gerard as a true anti-hero, one whose only softness comes for his heroine. I also appreciated the depth given to Keira, who, unlike many submissives in dark romances, pushes back and challenges her Dom. However, the one aspect I would have liked to see more of was her finding an identity outside of being Sovereign’s woman, given how little choice she has had in her life. Still, it is clear that for Keira, being his sub, his partner, his wife, and the mother of his future children is what she wants most of all.
Recommended for: readers who crave dark, emotionally intense romances with morally grey heroes, BDSM dynamics, and heroines who find empowerment even in submission.
Final Verdict: A brooding, darkly sensual cowboy romance where obsession meets devotion, Sovereign burns with intensity and leaves its mark long after the last page.

I met his gaze. The dark, turbulent anger swirled with something else. Something I couldn’t define. I had a limited scope with men, but I had some. Nothing came close to this man though.
There is something irresistibly charming about friends-to-lovers romances, and Have My Baby captures that magic with humor, heart, and a whole lot of heat. Written by author duo Taryn Quinn (whose individual books I have enjoyed before, especially Cari Quinn’s), this series opener hooked me right away.
Friends-to-lovers also happens to be one of or if not THE favorite trope in romance, and this book provided me with a heady reminder of why: the blend of deep-rooted friendship, unspoken longing, and explosive passion when the line finally blurs is endlessly satisfying.
Alison Marie Lawrence (Ally) has been in love with her best friend Seth Hamilton for as long as she can remember, though she has kept that a well maintained secret. Seth, a single father devoted to his little girl, suddenly drops a bombshell when he asks Ally to have his baby; an arrangement meant to be practical, without the mess of relationships or heartbreak.
Seth is the kind of hero who makes an impression from the very first page. A workaholic millionaire who nevertheless puts his daughter Laurie first, he is commanding, sexy, and unexpectedly tender. The way he takes care of Laurie reveals just how deeply kind and caring he is beneath his confident exterior.
Ally, meanwhile, is skittish and cautious, but she is also strong in ways she does not always recognize. Having built her life around a man she loves deeply, watching him get married, have a kid, when all the while she is right in front of him—that takes the kind of indomitable strength that I cannot even fathom. Ally is a character that shines with warmth and goodness, making it easy to see why Seth finds himself falling for her despite his best intentions.
Their arrangement begins with Seth’s “practical” request, but the foundation of their bond is anything but that. The years of friendship, the little moments of trust and laughter, and the undeniable chemistry between them all bubble to the surface in a matter of encounters. Seth might like to think that he is in control, but Ally’s vulnerability and the depth of her love strips away every wall he has ever built around his heart. Watching her move from self-doubt to realizing her worth, and him from control to surrender, makes their journey compelling from beginning to end.
The setting of Crescent Cove adds charm to the story, a small town where everyone seems to know each other’s business. That backdrop of familiarity and comfort made Seth and Ally’s shift from friends to lovers all the more intimate in my opinion. From the cozy warmth of the Rusty Spoon diner where Ally works, to the community ties that weave their lives together, the atmosphere is one of home and belonging, anchoring the romance in a place that feels lived-in and real. And let me not forget the delightful side characters, Sage, in particular, the between her and Oliver hinting at something intriguing, which I am definitely eager to see explored further in the series.
What made this book stand out for me was the sheer intensity of the emotional punch it delivered, paired with the scorching chemistry between the two. The sex scenes are beyond hot (as is signature Cari Quinn, I must add), the kind that lingers long after you are done. That said, I would have loved a little more gradual build-up to the moment Seth blurts out his proposal as the shift from best friends to something more felt almost too sudden, even though the emotions behind it rang true.
For all that, I loved how much heart this story carried. Laurie was precious, Ally was simply everything good and kind, and Seth was sexy as sin—a hurricane of want and need, but also a man who worshipped the woman he finally realized had always been his. Together, they were messy, emotional, passionate, and real!
Recommended for: Readers who love best-friends-to-lovers stories, single father romances, small-town settings, and a blend of humor, heat, and heart.
Final Verdict: A sizzling and heartfelt friends-to-lovers romance from a talented author duo; Have My Baby brims with humor, passion, and emotion, setting the stage for an addictive small-town series.
Format: E-Book Read with: Kindle Oasis Length: Novel Genre: Contemporary Romance POV: Third Person, Dual Series: Standalone Publisher: Harlequin Presents Hero: Valente Lorenzatto Heroine: Caroline Hales Sensuality: 🔥🔥🔥 Published On: January 01, 2010 Started On: May 21, 2024 Finished On: May 21, 2024
Lynne Graham has always been a master at weaving revenge, passion, and redemption into a seamless whole, and Virgin on Her Wedding Night is no exception. This is a story that starts with bitterness, as Valente Lorenzatto seeks to even the score for the humiliation of being abandoned at the altar years ago.
He has built himself up from a youth of poverty and illegitimacy into a man of staggering wealth and power, determined to use every ounce of it to exact revenge. What he does not anticipate is how the woman who once broke him still holds the power to undo him completely.
Caroline Hales as a heroine surprised me. On the surface, she seems meek, almost too pliant, the kind of woman who shoulders guilt that is not hers to bear. But underneath all that is someone marked by an upbringing that taught her little of love or independence.
An adopted daughter raised in privilege, Caroline’s moments of rebellion were few, and the greatest of them had been falling for Valente years earlier. The irony, of course, is that the very act that destroyed their love, her jilting him at the altar—was not the selfish betrayal it appeared to be, but the consequence of circumstances that had spiraled beyond her control.
Valente, on the other hand, is all steel and fire. There’s a ruthlessness in the way he pursues revenge, but also a deep vulnerability that makes him more than a mere avenger. Underneath his arrogance lies the man who once loved Caroline with all the single-mindedness of youth, and though he tells himself he no longer feels that way, his actions betray him. His pursuit of Caroline is as much about rekindling what they lost as it is about punishing her, even if he cannot admit it to himself.
The tension between them is deliciously high, and the seduction is classic Graham—slow, heady, and filled with that irresistible push-pull dynamic. What really works here is the way the past shadows their every interaction, forcing both Caroline and Valente to re-examine what really happened, and whether love still has a place between them. If Caroline at times frustrates with her martyrdom, Valente’s determination and the sheer force of their chemistry more than make up for it. And when he finally lowers his defenses, the fireworks are worth it.
What I loved most was the blend of passion and tenderness that defined their journey. Valente’s seduction of Caroline is written with such care that you feel the shift from vengeance to love in every encounter. What I found weaker was Caroline’s tendency to play the victim—her lack of backbone in some moments grated, even when her circumstances explained much of it. Still, watching her grow, and seeing Valente gradually surrender to his feelings, carried the story beautifully to its end.
Recommended for: readers who love revenge-to-redemption arcs, heroes who burn with intensity beneath their polished armor, and heroines of quite indomitable strength.
Final Verdict: Passionate and intense, Valente and Caroline’s story is classic Lynne Graham—scorching seduction wrapped around a second chance at love.

Format: E-Book Read with: Kindle Oasis Length: Novel Genre: Contemporary Romance POV: Third Person, Single Series: Standalone Publisher: Mills & Boon Hero: Leo Demetrios Heroine: Angie Brown Sensuality: 🔥🔥🔥 Published On: October 01, 1997 Started On: May 20, 2024 Finished On: May 21, 2024
When Leo wanted something, he wanted it yesterday. And, just below that sophisticated and cool cosmopolitan surface, Leo was as shockingly domineering and unashamedly primal in his appetites as a sixteenth-century pirate marauding the seven seas.
Lynne Graham’s The Winter Bride takes readers through her signature world of intense emotions, complicated family ties, and the kind of passionate entanglements that keeps the reader hooked till the very last page. This story blends all the classic Graham elements—misunderstandings, possessiveness, jealousy, and a love that refuses to be denied—wrapped in a Christmas setting that heightens both the drama and the intimacy.
Leo Demetrios is every inch the larger-than-life hero, a Greek billionaire with the commanding presence that Graham’s readers like myself expect. Beneath that ruthlessness lies a man who finds himself completely undone by Angie Brown, a heroine who has quietly lived in his world’s periphery as the butler’s daughter.
Angie is far younger than Leo, just nineteen when their paths first intertwine, and the years and circumstances between them only serve to heighten the storm brewing when they come together again. As a single mother, Angie has built a life for herself, but her lingering vulnerability and the secret she carries makes her relationship with Leo combustible from the very start.
The story brims with conflicts born out of pride, jealousy, and half-truths. Leo’s cousin Drew plays a pivotal role in fanning those flames, his own feelings for Angie creating rifts that push Leo into all the wrong conclusions. Watching Leo wrestle with his possessiveness and helpless jealousy, so convinced she loves another, makes for high-octane angst, the kind that only Graham seems to deliver so well. Dialogue dominates the novel, and it works in untangling the mess of misunderstandings that pile up between Leo and Angie.
A departure from the classic Garaham style, especially for a story published in the 90’s, what stood out to me is how talk-heavy the book was. While it gave space to develop the tangled family dynamics, it did feel at times like it robbed readers of the kind of exquisite passion that the tension between the main couple so richly promised. That said, when Graham does deliver, the connection between Leo and Angie is scorching and deeply emotional. Leo is magnificent in his intensity, and Angie, despite her youth and moments of insecurity, proves to be his equal in every sense, meeting his fire with her own strength.
For me, this story captured everything I love about Lynne Graham’s older romances: the larger-than-life hero, the vulnerable heroine who has an inner backbone of steel, the messy entanglements of pride and love, and the undeniable heat between them.
Recommended for: Fans of Lynne Graham’s vintage style who enjoy jealousy-fueled angst, powerful alpha heroes, and heroines who give as good as they get.
Final Verdict: An angst-filled romance brimming with family drama and fiery passion, The Winter Bride delivers the kind of emotional ride that reminds me why Lynne Graham remains a timeless favorite in the genre.
Format: E-Book Read with: Kindle Oasis Length: Novel Genre: Contemporary Romance POV: First Person, Single Series: Standalone Publisher: Impeccably Demure Press Hero: Ian Heroine: Katherine Mirabel Whitehead Sensuality: 🔥🔥🔥 Published On: May 02, 2024 Started On: May 13, 2024 Finished On: May 19, 2024
Anne Stuart delivers another darkly seductive tale in Return to Mariposa, steeped in gothic atmosphere, family intrigue, and the kind of dangerous romantic tension she is known for. Katherine Mirabel Whitehead (Kitty) returns to the ancestral home she was banished from, only to step into her glamorous cousin Bella’s life through a daring masquerade. What follows is a story of secrets, betrayals, and forbidden desire, set against the backdrop of Mariposa.
Kitty, as a heroine, is both compelling and exasperating. She is intelligent on paper, with a PhD in plant eugenics that the story itself wryly points out as fairly useless, but emotionally she is vulnerable, with a deep well of insecurity and lack of self-worth. This makes her ripe for manipulation by her cousin and far too easily dazzled by charming vipers in disguise. There are moments when she veers into “too-stupid-to-live” territory, giving herself away and stumbling headlong into danger, which was as frustrating as it was hilarious. But at the same time, those flaws are what makes her believable — she has been shaped by rejection and she has never learned to see her own worth.
Ian, by contrast, is pure Anne Stuart hero. Harsh, unreadable, disdainful, and yet undeniably magnetic, he embodies that dangerous allure that makes you both wary and desperate for more. There is history between him and Kitty, one that adds depth to their dynamic, and discovering those intricacies is half the fun of this novel. Watching Ian, so certain and contained, slowly crumble under the weight of desire for Kitty is what makes this romance crackle. It is to his credit that he saves her from herself time and again, even when she cannot see the vipers circling.
The suspense of who wants Kitty — or Bella — dead runs alongside the romance, giving the story its bite. But it is the chemistry between Kitty and Ian that steals the show. The sex scenes are scorching hot, some of the best Stuart has written in recent years, and they carry that perfect balance of danger and tenderness that defines her work.
What I loved here was how quintessentially Anne Stuart this novel felt — the manipulative family drama, the enigmatic hero who you cannot quite trust, the heroine you sometimes want to shake, and the sheer heat that explodes between them.
But I also have to admit that this is not the best of her works. The plot meanders at times, and Kitty’s lack of self-preservation instincts can test the your patience. Still, for all that, it is a worthy read — especially for those who, like me, have missed Stuart’s trademark blend of scorching sensuality and gothic romantic suspense. If there was one thing I missed, it was an epilogue to give a glimpse into the future of these characters after such intensity — but then again, withholding that comfort is also classic Stuart.
Recommended for: Readers who love gothic-tinged suspense, darkly enigmatic heroes, flawed but vulnerable heroines, and the unique alchemy that only Anne Stuart can deliver.
Final Verdict: A darkly seductive gothic romance, Return to Mariposa delivers family intrigue, a hero who smolders, and sex scenes that are vintage Anne Stuart at her best.
Format: E-Book Read with: Kindle Oasis Length: Novel Genre: Post Apocalyptic Romance POV: First Person, Single Series: Kindled, #5 Publisher: Self-Published Hero: Cole Heroine: Delaney Elizabeth Rogers Sensuality: 🔥🔥🔥 Published On: June 28, 2023 Started On: March 01, 2024 Finished On: March 08, 2024
Set in the brutal, crumbling remains of a world transformed by cataclysm, the fifth book in the Kindled series by Claire Kent brings to us Citadel, a story of survival, sacrifice, and the kind of fierce, all-consuming love that burns even in the coldest ruins. Ms. Kent continues to deliver emotionally rich, raw, and atmospheric post-apocalyptic romances—and this one is right up there with Princess, my favorite from the series yet.
Delaney Elizabeth Rogers is just eighteen years old when she meets the man who would upend life as she knew it, a life that had been of quiet devastation since an asteroid hit the European continent when Del was just fifteen years old. Since then, she has only ever trusted one person in this brutal new world: her sister Breanna.
Since losing their parents and baby sister, the two have endured hunger, fear, and violence side by side, with Del consistently shielded from the worst of it by Breanna’s sacrifices. They have survived flooded cities, raiders, and years of uncertainty. So when Del comes across a grim, lone man with a gun, her natural distrust is temporarily overcome by the instinctive sense that he would not hurt her. That man is Cole.
Cole is everything I crave in a hero: big, brooding, intensely capable, and haunted. He has been on a lonely mission to find the younger brother he lost when the world collapsed, and he has never stayed in one place long enough to consider what he might need. He rescues Del and her sister from imminent danger and guides them to safety, but he never intends to stay—because men like Cole, shaped by loss and guilt, believe they are not allowed to want more. And yet, something about Del softens him, tempts him, and threatens to tether him, which scares him more than anything else.
What unfolds is slow, beautiful, and haunting. First in the aftermath of shared danger, and then again—two years later—when Del’s sister is taken, and it is Cole once again who guides them to find her. Their chemistry is explosive (which Breanna sees from the onset), but it is the emotional weight underneath that makes this story shine.
Cole is a man who does not believe that he deserves to be cared for, and Del is the first person who has ever made him question that belief. Del is one of my favorite Kent heroines—strong, pragmatic, quietly brave, and so perceptive. She understands that love in a world like the one that they live is not easy. It has to be chosen—over and over again. And Del is not going to let Cole make her feel like the second option in his life, for him to come back to her when he sees fit, and leave her just like that.
As always, there is something deeply compelling about the way Ms. Kent writes about intimacy. Every touch, every single look, carries weight that is at times inexplicable. The sex is hot, yes—but it is also layered with vulnerability, longing, and the ache of what’s unspoken. There was a scene out in the wilderness that takes place between Cole and Del, which truly depicts the kind of passion that exists between them, which will live rent free in my head. Watching Cole and Del slowly come together was gratifying as it was emotional.
Needless to say, I loved Citade; every minute of the story as it unfolded, from the bleak, gritty setting to the aching sweetness buried beneath Cole’s rough exterior. His savior complex, his reluctance to hope, his quiet desperation to protect—he made my chest ache in all the right ways. And Del’s growth—from someone shielded, to someone willing to fight for what she wants—was beautifully done. Ms. Kent once again proves how she can write heroes that rattle your cages, and Cole is right up there with her very best.
Recommended for: Fans of emotionally intense, survival-focused post-apocalyptic romance; gruff, protective heroes with a soft center; heroines who love and protect fiercely; and slow-burn angst.
Final Verdict: Citadel is raw, emotional, and unforgettable—a must-read for fans of gruff and fierce heroes and their heroines who love just as fiercely!

When I reach him, I can barely stop my momentum. I fling myself at him, wrapping both arms around him in a tight hug. I don’t think he expects such a greeting. He braced himself before I reached him so he doesn’t flinch or step backward at the force of my impact. But he just stands there as I hug him. Hard. Tense. Frozen for a few moments like he’s stunned. Like he has no idea how to respond. Then suddenly his arms go around me in a crushing embrace. For a few seconds I can barely breathe, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
“There’s your young man.” I gasp and turn around to look before I can stop myself. Sure enough, Cole has just entered. His gaze finds me unerringly. He watches me soberly for several seconds before he walks over to the short food line. “He’s not my young man.” Theresa gives a shrug. “If you say so.” “I haven’t even seen him in two years.” “I know. But he still looks at you like a blessing come to life. He always did.”
I close my eyes, exhausted and worn and confused and scared and totally wired. The world feels like it’s whirling behind my eyelids. “Just so you know,” I say into the silence. Even the fire isn’t crackling much anymore. “I am still into you.” “I know you are, baby,” he murmurs. “But I get why you don’t trust me. Maybe you will again one day.” “I… don’t know. I’d… I’d like to, but I don’t know if I can.” “We’ll see. Don’t worry about it for now. I’m not going anywhere.” For some reason, the low, gruff murmur of his voice settles me. I close my eyes again, and this time the world doesn’t spin. I’m asleep in just a few minutes.
Format: E-Book Read with: Kindle Oasis Length: Novel Genre: Contemporary Romance POV: First Person, Dual Series: Kindled,#4 Publisher: Self-Published Hero: Zed Heroine: Esther Hamilton Sensuality: 🔥🔥🔥 Published On: December 29, 2022 Started On: January 07, 2024 Finished On: January 10, 2024
First published in December of 2022, Hero, the fourth installment of the Kindled series by Claire Kent was a delightful read for me in many ways. Ms. Kent has a remarkable ability to bring together characters that have nothing going for them initially, who would probably not have gotten together if life had not thrown a major apocalyptic disaster upon them, and making it all work splendidly.
Esther Hamilton is 18 years old when the catastrophic event of the asteroid impact occurs, altering life as people knew it on Earth. Esther was a freshman in college at the time, whose ambitious aspiration was to become an astronaut. When the apocalypse forces her into survival mode to take refuge with family in a remote cabin, that is when she meets 24 year old Zed, her step-uncle at the time.
Years later, things have changed to the point where Zed is now single father to Rina, his five year old daughter. Esther, who originally viewed Zed as someone with no ambition and aimless in life, finds herself part of a family unit that comprises of the three of them, working hard to survive the hard realities of life.
Esther suffers from deep rooted anxiety that gnaws at her, at how little control she has over the elements and their shared life. In the midst of it, learning to recognize and appreciate the changes that transforms Zed into someone she could not care for initially into someone she is fiercely attracted to, is jarring enough as it is. While initially this connection is reluctant and driven by circumstance, over time, it grows into one that is more complex and multi-layered.
I truly loved Zed and admired his growth as a character. He was an unserious man (as most men tend to be at a certain age), but as the story evolved and along came responsibilities in the form of his daughter and of course Esther, he reveals the layers to his character, transforming into a dependable and caring figure. In my opinion, Zed was love!
At the same time, Esther was a character that truly resonated with me; her independence, resilience, and determination to survive despite the hardships and all odds made me fall for her and root for her. Esther is a complex heroine (as Ms. Kent’s heroines in this series tend to be), and her inner conflicts and shock at the realization that she fancies none other than Zed and the possibility that he fancies her back is one more problem for her to agonize over.
It is even initially the way Zed’s care for Esther’s well-being goes beyond obligation, offering her comfort during moments of intense anxiety that comes with the high uncertainties in her life that makes this story give you the fuzzy feels. Their first impulsive sexual encounter breaks another barrier between them, which helps Esther to see Zed in a whole new light as Zed becomes more attuned to her needs and emotions. It is also Zed that calls Esther out for hiding her emotions, giving the reader insight into how well he actually knows Esther inside and out.
Recommended for readers who love survivalist themed romances. This series is a must-read!
Final Verdict: Disaster has a way of bringing out the hero in you; Zed’s transformation into a man who Esther could wholeheartedly desire, love, and depend on makes for great reading.

Literally nothing else has a chance to exist in my mind. It’s entirely filled with vivid, intense images of me and Zed fucking. My body reacts to it. My heart rate picks up again but for a different reason now. All the energy from my earlier panic has transformed into something entirely different. It’s too much. I can’t control it. It’s like a foreign entity has taken possession of my body. And it’s that power—not me, it can’t be me—that’s reaching up to grab the sides of Zed’s head and pulling him down into a hard kiss.
I can’t believe we’re doing this. Having sex in the middle of the night. With each other. “What are we doing?” I toss my head back and forth on the mattress, trying to make myself think clear thoughts. “This isn’t right.” “Stop worrying about everything,” he mutters through a clenched jaw. It looks like he’s exerting great effort, and it’s the hottest thing. “Stop thinking for one fucking minute.” A wave of sensation slams into me then, and I follow his advice and push all my worries and mental stewing aside. Right now I need this.
Maybe it’s the helpless sound I make, but Zed is suddenly on fire. He makes a growling sound and palms my ass with one hand, lifting me up against the door in a quick, carnal move. I wrap my legs around him, partly because I need it for stability and partly because I want to feel the thick form of him between my thighs. His tongue is deep in my mouth, and he starts making a humping motion against me. It’s ridiculously hot. I squirm and gasp and try to squeeze him between my legs. “Damn,” he rasps at last. “You’re driving me out of my mind.”
“Esther.” I make a sobbing sound and lean forward so I can bite the curve of his shoulder, using it to smother the helpless sounds I’m making. He’s taking me hard and fast now, and my vision is blurring over. I squeeze him with my legs and dig my nails into his back and bite down hard on his shoulder as the pressure finally releases in intense waves of sensation. I come hard and messy all over him, around him, and he fucks me through it until he’s finally falling out of rhythm. “Sweet Jesus.” He swallows over the words as he pulls his cock out of me in a quick move and lets me down so my feet hit the floor. His face twists as he comes in several spurts against my chest and belly.
He reaches out to take me by the waist and pull me so I’m standing between his legs. He’s gazing up at me, his blue eyes hot. Strangely hungry. “Too lazy to even get up off your ass to do it right,” I say dryly. He chokes on a laugh. “Oh, I’m gonna do you right. You can count on it.” Before I can come up with an appropriate rejoinder, he’s swung me down onto the bed. I’m on my back, my upper body and butt on the mattress, but my legs hanging clumsily over the side. He moves over me. Kisses me deep and hard.
I feel completely out of control, and it’s a new, heady feeling for me. I clutch handfuls of the bedding beneath me, and bite my bottom lip over the helpless moans I’m making. “That’s right,” Zed mutters, his eyes raking up and down my body from my face to the place where his cock is moving in and out of me. “You’re doing so good. You’re taking it so good. Just let go. You can let go.”
He goes at it harder this time, holding on to fistfuls of my ass flesh so he can get good leverage to push. It’s aching but in a way I like. I need. I hear the shameless sounds I’m making and can’t believe they’re coming from me. I sound like an animal. So does he. We grunt and push and slap our flesh together until I’m coming again with a scream I barely manage to hide in the pillow.
Format: E-Book Read with: Kindle Oasis Length: Novel Genre: Contemporary Romance POV: Third Person, Dual Series: Standalone Publisher: Harlequin Presents Hero: Nikolai Drakos Heroine: Prunella Palmer Sensuality: 🔥🔥🔥 Published On: May 19, 2016 Started On: November 14, 2023 Finished On: November 18, 2023
Bought for the Greek’s Revenge by Lynne Graham plunges readers into the chaotic world of the main protagonists— a passionate whirlwind of revenge, redemption, and sizzling high-octane chemistry. The story centers around Greek tycoon Nikolai Drakos and his ruthless pursuit of Ella Palmer (Prunella Palmer) for his revenge. Published in May 2016, this is everything fans of Ms. Graham expects from a romance penned by her—fierce, dramatic, and simmering with emotional and sexual tension.
Nikolai is a man on a mission, bent on avenging himself against his archenemy, whom he despises with every fiber of his being. It is the unassuming Ella who inadvertently becomes the pawn in his game of retribution and gets caught in the crosshairs as Nikolai attempts to get to his enemy through her. Nikolai, relentless in his pursuit, buys out Ella’s family debts, coercing her compliance with an offer she can hardly refuse—her family’s financial freedom in exchange for becoming his mistress.
Ella’s predicament is impossible, but she bravely steps into Nikolai’s world, initially agreeing to his terms with little choice. Her character, an alluring mix if innocence and tenderness, has a powerful impact on Nikolai, who soon finds his motivations shifting in unexpected ways. As the story progresses, Nikolai’s hardened exterior cracks, revealing a man who, despite his ruthless ambition, feels a growing protectiveness and attraction toward her. What starts as a vengeful transaction morphs into something altogether different, as Nikolai realizes that the ultimate victory might not be revenge, but claiming Ella as his bride.
Nikolai is the type of hero that Ms. Graham crafts so perfectly. His dark past—marked by neglect and a childhood burdened with emotional scars—makes him both aloof, powerful, and yet deeply wounded, with the untimely loss of his sister having left its mark on him. Ella on the other hand has her own insecurities to contend with, having being engaged once to a man whose rejection of her has left deeply ingrained scars on her psyche.
It is amidst all this that Ms. Graham masterfully crafts a romance that is as complex as it is intense. The relationship between Nikolai and Ella grows with each encounter brimming with heat and emotions, with neither character losing the very qualities that draws readers to them in the first place. Nikolai’s transformation—from a man bent on vengeance to one who learns to love—gives the story depth, as his icy demeanor softens, and the vulnerability he allows Ella to see speaks for itself.
I loved the modern twists and how Ms. Graham balanced intense passion with deep-seated emotional growth. I loved Nikolai and Ella individually and together, and that is in essence half the job done when crafting a romance novel.
For fans of Lynne Graham, Bought for the Greek’s Revenge delivers all the elements of a classic Mills & Boon novel with an extra dose of fire and emotional punch. Nikolai’s relentless passion and Ella’s quiet strength creates a dynamic that keeps the pages turning.
Recommended for fans of Harlequin romances and especially fans of Ms. Graham.
Final Verdict: Bought for the Greek’s Revenge is a must-read for lovers of high-stakes, emotionally charged romance with a fiercely possessive hero and a heroine who finds her own strength amidst the storm.

‘It would take an avalanche to crush your ego, wouldn’t it?’ ‘If I was modest you would walk all over me with pleasure.’ Nikolai was entranced by the glorious green of her eyes against the smooth, fine grain of her porcelain skin. ‘But that’s not what you want from me, is it? You’d much prefer me to take your choices away and give you the excuse to be with me.’
‘I really hate being shouted at,’ Nikolai confided a split second before his hard, sensual mouth claimed hers. And for that same split second it was as though Ella’s world stopped turning and she was jolted off course, sent breathless and spinning into the unknown. Heat surged up through her like an invasive weapon. He eased her out from under him but kept her trapped in his arms. Irritation flamed through her because inexplicably she had liked his crushing weight on hers. Her fists struck at shirt-clad shoulders as unyielding as rock. The tip of his tongue flicked inside her mouth and she shivered violently, the clenching at her secret core almost painful in its intensity. He nipped at her lower lip, sucked and soothed it with his tongue. She wanted more, she wanted more so badly it hurt to be denied and the rushing tide of that hunger shocked her back into her mind again.
Nikolai bent his head and kissed her. It was a slow claiming as the tip of his tongue traced the lush fullness of her lower lip and then delved gently between. A breathy little gasp erupted from her parted lips and she stepped closer. His arms snapped round her and it was the work of a moment for him to swing round and press her back against the car, his sensual mouth driving down hard on hers, his lean, powerful body crushing her against the unyielding metal. Her every skin cell seemed to erupt into life as heat raced through her bloodstream and a bolt of naked yearning surged from low in her pelvis. His mouth was all she cared about. She couldn’t get enough of him, was convinced she would never get enough of him. She gloried in the thrust of his arousal against her, the knowledge that Nikolai Drakos wanted her and couldn’t hide the fact.
A kind of frenzy gripped her muscles and she shook, feeling ecstasy within her grasp and snatching at it. And it ran over and through her, a rolling white-hot wave of convulsive delight and fulfilment that left her drained and limp. Ella was convinced that she would never move again, and then Nikolai moved when she didn’t want him to and she rolled over and rested her head on his chest instead, her arm wrapping round his narrow waist. He dropped a kiss on her damp brow. ‘Thank you,’ he rasped breathlessly. ‘That was amazing.’
‘Stop talking,’ Ella told him. ‘Being thrown on the bed works for me. Seeing you a little out of control is more real than some plan of slow seduction.’ ‘Blame yourself. You’ve been wrecking my plans all day,’ Nikolai asserted, swiping the package off the dressing table and returning to the bed. ‘First you blew my mind on the flight and then you flaunted your gorgeous self in boots and stockings and a garter and I was lost…’ ‘Is that a complaint?’ ‘No.’ A wicked charismatic grin slashed his lean, darkly handsome features. ‘That was an “any time you want me, I’m yours” speech,’ he teased. ‘You can be yourself with me, you know,’ she whispered feelingly. ‘Just do what you feel like.’
He eased over her, rearranged her to his satisfaction, slowly surged in and she shut her eyes tight, every nerve screaming for the satisfaction only he could give. Inch by agonising inch he entered her and when he was finally fully seated she loosed a sound of pleasure she couldn’t hold back. She could feel how damp, how ready she was and his sheer strength as he lifted her up to him, muscles bulging in his forearms, left her weak with longing. He slid back and then plunged, his speed picking up. Excitement detonated inside her and she wrapped her legs round him. As she bucked he pinned her to the mattress and thrust into her fiercely with a primal grunt of pleasure. It went on and on and on until she was sobbing with excitement and the band of tension at the centre of her body was tightening and tightening. Release came in a rush of feral fire, lighting up every nerve and skin cell, and she cried out, her nails raking down his back in an ecstasy of pleasure.
