Score Sheet Summary

Eros, My Love is a very short novella, just around 26 pages. It tells the story of how Eros, the Greek God of love in Greek mythology finds the one true love he is searching for during the year he is allowed to roam the Earth. His fascination with the 21 year old Gabrielle Foster (Gabby) takes a turn on his last day on Earth, which in the end turns out to be a dream come true for Gabby.

The novella is well-written, is in the first person written from Gabby’s point of view. The one thing in my opinion that worked against the story was its short length which doesn’t give the reader ample enough time to get invested in the story and its characters. I am sure if the story had been just a tad lengthier, this could have been a really great read!

Even then, I enjoyed the romance and the ending, and recommend it to those who love the idea of a Greek god falling for a mortal. This one’s just enough to wet your appetite for more.

Favorite Quotes

He smiled and smoothed my hair back from my forehead. He did not say a word, nor did he need to, because his affection for me spoke louder than words. I only hoped Eros understood I just extended a personal invitation to share his body with me.
The primal look in his eyes expressed one single message—you’re mine now.

Requested Review: Cinderella and the Sheikh by Teresa Morgan

Format: E-bookcinderellaandthesheikh
Read with: iBooks for iPad
Length: Novel
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Series: Standlaone
Publisher: Self-Published
Hero: Sheikh Rasyn ibn Bakr ibn Rahman al Jabar
Heroine: Libby Fay
Sensuality: 3
Date of Publication: April 6, 2011
Started On: December 14, 2011
Finished On: December 15, 2011

Sheikh Rasyn is the next in line to rule in Abbas, North Africa. His one goal is to let his uncle know that he is totally unsuitable to be the ruler of his country. Because his uncle refuses to pay heed to his pleas and bargains, Rasyn does the next best thing; find the most unsuitable woman to be the queen of his people and marry her.

Libby Fay works at the Hotel Scheherazade in Manhattan, New York. The very first moment Libby had laid eyes on Sheikh Rasyn had been a cosmic one, one that had been an uncomfortably humiliating experience as well. Though Rasyn’s dark good looks and the way his heavy lidded gaze continues to follow her across the room reduces Libby to a quivering bundle of nerves, she has no intention of being seduced and discarded by a rich playboy.

Libby is a woman who holds onto the dream of being united with a man who would give her a happily ever after like the one that had been her parents married life. It is with that thought at the back of her mind that Libby agrees to accompany the man who seduces her so effortlessly with his charm and with the way he makes her senses hum with just his mere presence.

But unknown to Libby, Rasyn continues with the charade that would give him exactly what he wants though sometimes the region around his heart pains at the thought of all the humiliation and pain that Libby is subjected to. As with most of the best laid plans, Rasyn’s plans also backfire on him, making him realize a little bit too late that somewhere in between playing the besotted fiance’ and husband, he had actually fallen for his wife.

I am not much of a fan of romances involving Sheikhs. Though when I first started reading category romances I indulged in them every now and then, overall I am not much of a fan girl of Arabic men who wear and flaunt their obvious wealth to the rest of the world. So because its being ages since I read a Sheikh romance, I decided to grab the review opportunity when presented by the author. And overall, I have to say I would consider this as a good read that compelled me to keep the pages turning, just to find out whether Rasyn had to grovel enough to win back the affections of Libby towards the end.

Libby is a sweetheart of a heroine. She is beautiful on the inside, and is a bit naive when it comes to the likes of men like Rasyn who have the whole world at their feet. Libby’s true nature is what draws everyone around her to come be a part of her world, no matter how much of a misfit she is at the beginning. To see Libby win over the affections of everyone against all odds was one of the best parts about this story.

Rasyn on the other hand was a hero I didn’t love overly much. Maybe it had something to do with the way he treated Libby without any regards whatsoever for her feelings or maybe because I just felt that Libby gave in to his affections much more easily than he deserved after deceiving her so well and through. But, towards the end there is this bit with a lost shoe that just made a bit of the ice around my heart melt towards Rasyn and I guess that was a scene that just went to show how much he had changed on the inside where it matters when it comes to Libby and how he views the rest of the world.

This one’s for fans of Sheikh romances; Teresa Morgan’s fascination for the magic and love that is part of the Arabian folklore shines brightly throughout the story.

Score Sheet Summary

Separation Anxiety was a novella that sucked me in right from the very beginning. Though I had to revisit my copy of Her Own Best Enemy to remember who Rebecca was, I was immediately drawn into the way Rebecca was struggling from her past to do even the most simple things like diving off into the swimming pool.

For a woman who suffers from agoraphobia, it is her worst nightmare come true when an escaped convict takes her hostage in her own home, the utter lack of control on how the next few hours or days might pan out being the worst thing someone like Rebecca has to confront. I loved how Cynthia portrays Rebecca’s fears, her struggles and her many attempts at overcoming them which I know wouldn’t be an easy one.

In comes burnt-out hostage negotiator Jack Martello whose shared past with Rebecca makes the mission he embarks upon a doubly risky one. But the woman he encounters with fear radiating from every pore is one that clutches at his heart, the attraction that he had always felt for the first woman he had fallen for a part of him even now.

Cynthia makes their relationship work amidst moments filled with terror and the unknown and makes the passion that bursts forth between them something that they both hold onto even when things go from bad to worse.

It shows an author’s remarkable talent when she can make a novella of this length work for a situation such as the one she explores in this book, a fact that would always keep me coming back for more of her books in the future!

For fans of Cynthia Justlin and for those who loved Her Own Best Enemy and thought that Becca deserves her own happily ever after; Cynthia created this story just for you!

“See how good it can be, Becs. I do this to you and you,” he reached up, captured her hand and drew it down to his erection, “you do this to me.”
She gasped and yanked her hand away. He chuckled. Scooping her hand back into his, he kissed her palm and placed it over his thudding heart.
“You do that to me too.”

Requested Review: Know Thine Enemy by Rosalie Stanton

Format: E-bookknowthineenemy
Read with: iBooks for iPad
Length: Novel
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Series: Standalone
Publisher: Noble Romance Publishing
Hero: Niles Arnold Ryker the Third
Heroine: Elizabeth Jane Bennett
Sensuality: 4
Date of Publication: November 3, 2011
Started On: December 12, 2011
Finished On: December 13, 2011

Rosalie Stanton is an author who definitely knows what she is doing when it comes to heroines of the kick-ass variety. And invigorating banter is always a part of her novels that makes them that much harder to put down. Whether it be vampires or just plain old human heroes and heroines that she writes about, Rosalie writes them with a passion that comes across when one reads her books.

Know Thine Enemy tells the story of a more than 100 year old vampire who finds the peace, solace and love that he has been searching for all his life when he meets the human demon hunter who entices him to get to know more of her even from their very first encounter.

Niles Arnold Ryker the Third (Ryker) knows a woman worth getting to know when he sees one. Tailing Elizabeth Jane Bennett (Izzie) and watching while she takes on vampires more than capable of sending her to a brutal death, the one thing that draws Ryker is the fact that Izzie is a hunter without a cause.

Izzie had embraced the world of hunting down vampires 6 years back when her life had taken a turn that would have killed her if it had been anyone other than Zack Wright she had tried to steal from. Driven by a need to exorcise the world from the undead that roams at night, Zack has made it his life’s mission and in turn trained and made it Izzie’s mission as well to hunt them. But even if Izzie is unwilling to say it out loud, somehow the empty existence of living from one hunt to the next makes for a lonely existence until Ryker steps into her life and makes her do things that she would never have done otherwise.

Before anything can happen between Ryker and Izzie, an enemy from Ryker’s past who is maniac enough to embrace becoming a creature of a race that he so despises just because it would bring him one step closer to getting the “justice” he feels that he rightfully deserves comes into Ryker’s life, putting both Izzie and Ryker in danger. The time spent in captivity is one that tests the endurance and strength of both Izzie and Ryker’s characters, both forced into submitting to the desire that is always a part of them when they are together.

Know Thine Enemy is a story that tells the tale of a vampire’s quest to find redemption, acceptance and love, things he had resigned himself that he would never ever have in his life. It also tells the story of a woman who is more than a little bit lost in life, following the footsteps of a man whose need for vengeance and revenge is no part of who Izzie is. Izzie has led a tougher life than most, growing up with a father who had slowly grown insane as the years sped by. Escaping from him with her life intact had just been the beginning of a hard life and it is only under Ryker’s soothing touch that Izzie finds the strength to let go and believe for the very first time in her life.

Ryker’s brand of seduction is a lethal one that got my heart racing more than a time or two. His intensity and focus when it comes to Izzie, to the point that the rest of the world just melts away and ceases to exist, the way he whispers those tender nothings during those moments when physical and emotional intimacy seems to mix and blur around the edges, needless to say I loved his character and his brand of seduction. His tenderness and understanding nature is just exactly what someone like Izzie needs in order to believe that something better has come to her life and is there to stay as long as she wants and needs it to.

With a fitting end to the villain, no hanky panky forgiveness stuff here which I just loved, Know Thine Enemy is a great read, recommended for fans of Rosalie Stanton and fans of vampire romances.

Favorite Quotes

Intimacy with Wright had seemed necessary; an essential human experience she didn’t think she’d get anywhere else, at least not on her terms. Ryker changed everything.
Ryker, she wanted. Hell, a part of her needed him, and the rest of her just craved.

“You’re not dirty, or bad, or wrong, or anything that ass of a father told you,” he whispered, kissing the swell of her breast. “I honestly don’t know what you are.”
“Ryker, please.”
“Except mine.”

With Intrusion author Cynthia Justlin cements her position into my list of favorite authors for the romantic suspense genre. Ever since I read Her Own Best Enemy I have had my eye out for Cameron Scott’s story and receiving a request for review by Cynthia Justlin for his story just made it that much sweeter.

With his bummed up knee and shattered self confidence, all 33 year old Cameron Scott (Cam) wants is to prove that he is on top of his game. A former Communications Sergeant in Special Forces, Cameron had never met a code he couldn’t break with a little patience and a good dose of ingenuity. When Cameron tries to take on an expedition to prove that the existing security at the Nanodyne Technologies is not an impenetrable one, he lands himself in more trouble than he ever foresees.

30 year old Dr. Audra McCain is the brains behind a top secret project at Nanodyne Technologies that entails the creation of a body armor suite that could mean the end to heavy casualties in war zones. But when the armor during its final stages gets stolen and by a quirky twist of fate both Cam and Audra tops the list if suspects, there is only one thing left for them to do while dodging the law and the one man whose entire being is focused on getting to the armor. That is to put their heads together and come up with who had stolen the armor in the first place.

Cynthia Justlin has a way with creating broken characters, let them make huge mistakes along the way to test their worthiness to each other and in the end the happily ever after that comes remains to be that much sweeter. For me, both Cameron and Audra proved to be such characters who needed a little bit of faith and a whole lot of love to light up their lives so that they could achieve their own sweet little happily ever after.

When it comes to Cameron, he is the guy who hides behind a veneer of charm and lazy humor behind which lies a tortured soul that blames himself for the way he let down his team back in Afghanistan. Having never forgiven himself for his impulsiveness that had brought all sorts of shit raining down on the team with his just getting away with a bummed knee doesn’t sit well with Cameron. Even then, he is a guy that hasn’t lost all hope or faith in humankind, and in Audra he sees the woman he is meant to be with for the rest of his life.

Audra is another story altogether. She suffers from abandonment issues, has emotional scars left over from being shuffled over from one foster home to the other when growing up. And she hides behind her work, keeping to herself and never letting herself get attached to anyone until Cameron shows up in her life making her feel the tingles of wanting through the fog of nothingness and emptiness that surrounds her heart.

When Cameron and Audra are pitted together, it is Cameron who hopes for a future with Audra, this switch of opposites unlike the norm a refreshing one. Though I had envisioned Cameron to be a more forceful hero, his brand of standing up for what he wants, that streak of impulsiveness that years in the military hadn’t curbed out him and the way he falls for Audra flaws and all was exactly what Audra needed in order to embrace the truth that Cameron means so much more to her than just a night of passion between two people.

I loved how Cynthia brings all elements of the story together, going as far as to create a villain for whom everything doesn’t go according to plan either. His plans are thwarted from the start making him that much more impulsive and dangerous to contend with. And since its always the norm for villains to have everything going for them, especially at the beginning of the story, this was such a refreshing change.

Cynthia ties up the fast paced action and adventure aspect of the story together with heat of the toe curling variety, one which she delivers upon very well. Cameron and Audra’s undeniable need for one another makes for heady reading and I loved every minute of the sensual haze within which they lose themselves in.

Recommended for fans of action based romantic suspense with a hero who just makes your heart go pitter patter and a heroine who definitely needs a dose of exactly that.

He yanked her into him, and covered her lips with his before she could protest. Pain radiated around his kneecap and down his leg, but it was so damn worth it for one taste of her sweet mouth. His tongue stroked the delicate seam of her lips and she stiffened, her jaw tensing under his fingertips.
Don’t pull away. Not yet. He hadn’t tasted his fill.
He caressed her cheekbones, traced their delicate curve until she sagged against him. Her lips softened and he nipped at her mouth until it parted for him. Blood thrummed in his veins. He plunged his tongue inside her mouth and slid his hands into the damp, silky curls of her hair.

“Look at you.” His throat contracted in one long swallow. He ran a finger between her breasts, down her belly to the elastic waistband of her sweats where he dipped a teasing caress underneath it. “I could feast on you all day and never get enough.”

“Like what you see?”
He arched a self-assured brow, and she couldn’t stop a bubble of laughter from popping in her chest. “Yeah, I like what I see.”
“Good.” He eased on the bed next to her and she scooted back to give him more room. His fingers trailed up the flat of her belly to her breast, his thumb scraped across her nipple. “Because I love what I see.”
Except he wasn’t looking at her body, he was looking at her—into her—as if he could see all her fears and flaws and accepted them.

He hauled her completely on top of him.
His mouth ravaged hers, hot and hungry, his hands guiding her hips over him. He entered her, filled her and she cried out at the overwhelming pleasure that shook her body.

Her orgasm hit her with the force of a molecular explosion, tiny particles of energy bursting and swirling inside her. Before she could catch her breath, Cam was right there with her, shuddering his own climax, and drawing her into his fierce embrace.
He kissed her, his hot tongue sweeping inside her mouth. Another wave of shivers wracked her body and she clutched at his shoulders desperate to hold on to a shred of her common sense amidst the tide of emotions charging between them.

Hero: Jason Raines
Heroine: Sabrina Turner
Sensuality: 4

Sabrina Turner is a woman who hears voices of the dead from which she finds no reprieve until she takes the offer of an incubus (a male demon believed to have sexual intercourse with sleeping women) with whose encounters after which Sabrina finds a brief respite from the haunting voices.

When Sabrina during one of her episodes crosses paths with her sexy neighbor Jason Raines, both their lives are changed irrevocably, Jason who wants to reach out to his dead brother one last time and Sabrina who has resigned herself to remaining in her lonely existence for the rest of her life.

I am a reader who is willing to accept content in a story that some readers may find to offensive. And no, I am not talking about kinky stuff but rather situations that the hero and heroine sometimes find themselves in that might not sit well with the average romance reader. Dee pushes the normal boundaries within this story, landing the heroine in a situation where she cheats on Jason and the love that is growing between them. However, for me, I felt that if Jason was wiling to accept that along with all those other strange things about Sabrina, and since Dee made the scene work for me without grossing me out, I found that it actually added to the depth of the story rather than detracting from it.

Jason was such a sweetheart all throughout the story, the only time I felt he deserved a bit of a poke in his chest was when he let his father’s effect on him change his attitude towards Sabrina. The way he is protective of Sabrina, sheltering her through the worst moments of her life, the way he loves her enough to accept things a lesser man would not, makes him a hero whose one of a kind.

The only thing that irked me about  the story was Sabrina’s reluctance to move on, to believe and accept the fact that Jason was there to stay forever by her side. His patience is a never ending one when it comes to Sabrina but she still continues to have her doubts even till the very last minute, which didn’t sit that well with me. But nevertheless in the end, Sabrina does place her trust, heart and soul in Jason’s hands in spite of her misgivings which I guess goes to show just how much Jason really means to her.

The one thing that I loved were the scenes of passion between Jason and Sabrina of the scorching hot variety. If there was one thing that I knew for certain I would be getting out of this story when I accepted this for review was the fact that Dee would not disappoint me in the sensual aspect of the novel. And I was deliciously proven right time and yet again as the story progressed.

Invigoratingly different in its storyline, Intimate Whispers is for those who love to read romances that are not of the norm, stories that makes you think beyond the happily ever after. Compelling the reader to keep turning the pages, Dee Carney manages to keep one riveted throughout this unusual and at times eerie tale that kept me entertained during my foray into this book.

Favorite Quotes

She groaned as he bottomed out. He stood there without moving at first and there was so much unsaid about his acceptance. Jason waited, not moving, not speaking more. His entire body pressed against hers, and in that moment, she knew protection. She knew acceptance. And dear God, she knew love.

Requested Review: Shattered by Kate Kelly

Hero: Jay Rawlings
Heroine: Tess MacLean
Sensuality: 3
Date of Publication: September 5, 2011
Started On: December 1, 2011
Finished On: December 2, 2011

Shattered by Kate Kelly is a novel that hit the e-book stands on September this year. A romantic suspense that features a stalker killer and a past from which both the hero and heroine are trying to find their way out of, Shattered was a novel that I enjoyed reading.

When 27 year old Tess MacLean makes her way back to South Dakota after a 3 year period, its not at all how she has envisioned a return trip home back to everything familiar would be. With a killer close to her heels, Tess runs to the only person that she can count on, her ex-fiance Jay Rawlings who made it painfully clear to her during their last encounter that she was no longer needed in his life.

Jay is a man who kids himself into believing that all is right in his world by pushing away that nightmarish night from 3 years ago when everything in his professional and personal life turned upside down. Refusing to give anything a second chance to shatter his world once again, Jay believes that keeping people that he cares about at arms length is the way to live. However, once again when Tess tumbles into his life, needing him more than ever, there is little he can do to say no and turn her away.

Rusty skills that Jay has not used for far too long help him uncover the clues as to why Tess’s life might be in danger, the clues opening up a whole lot of mess that seems far more serious than he had believed at first. And to say that Tess once again opens up old wounds that has far from healed is an understatement.

Jay and Tess’s love had been a fiery and all consuming one before their future had vaporised right in front of them. And once again, those old feelings hit Jay with full force until he has no choice but to give in and experience that heady magic that had once been his life until he had pushed away the one woman who means everything to him.

A killer who is far too close to home than either Tess or Jay envisions stalks them both, biding his time until towards the very end where Jay has to confront his past demons once again to find closure from the nightmares that have been a constant presence in his life for far too long.

I loved Tess’s character far more than I loved Jay. Maybe it had something to do with that inner courage within Tess that refuses to give up or maybe because she is the straightforward type of heroine that I love so much. For me, Jay was a trifle bit too caught up in the past, maybe rightfully so at first, but there were times when I wanted to poke him in the chest and point towards Tess and their happily ever after. But in the end, Kelly managed to deliver an ending that fits, her writing style which is what made the story work for me at all times.

Shattered is a story of second chances blended well with suspense elements that guarantees an enjoyable read. Recommended for fans of the genre.

Favorite Quotes

Jay’s large body covered her. Oh God, the welcome weight of him. His mouth descended on hers, not asking, not seeking, but demanding she meet his need. She wrapped her arms around his neck and arched up into him as her tongue darted into his mouth, met his, and mated in a hot, heady tangle.

Requested Review: Hot Text by Cari Quinn

Format: E-bookhottext
Read with: iBooks for iPhone
Length: Novella
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Series: Standalone
Publisher: Ellora’s Cave
Hero: Jeffrey Maddox
Heroine: Karyn Colette Allison
Sensuality: 4.5
Date of Publication: November 2, 2011
Started On: November17, 2011
Finished On: November 17, 2011

With Hot Text, Cari Quinn once again proves to me the reason why she is my go to author when it comes to quality erotica that delivers on all fronts. For some Hot Text might be “offensive” in the sense that sexual relations takes place between a married woman who is on the verge of divorce and the hero. But hey, lets face it; in real life things do not exactly go according to our well laid plans. If it did we would all be married to men who wouldn’t let us out of our bedrooms because they cannot get enough of giving us multiple orgasms. And yes, I digress but I just love the fact that Cari is bold enough and is daring enough to write about scenarios that might not be sometimes well received by 100% of the romance reading population but nevertheless for fans like us who want and crave something different, Cari ALWAYS hits the spot with plots of the said nature.

Jeffery Maddox is the two time divorced older brother of Daisy Maddox whose current beau is the married Lonny James who just rubs Jeff the wrong way. Wanting to do something about Lonny before he can break Daisy’s heart, Jeff takes an opportunity that presents itself and meets up with Lonny’s soon to be ex-wife with the intention of asking her to take Lonny back and work things out.

But from the moment Jeff and Karyn lay eyes on each other, the sparks that fly between them are evident. For Karyn who is a pre-school teacher who defines herself as an average person, who has had 10 years of marriage which had failed miserably when her husband had asked for a divorce is not prepared for her almost forgotten body parts to come alive at the sight of the very fine Jeff whose gruff nature just calls to something deep inside of her.

A night of unforgettable and decadent sex follows, a night during which every misconception that Karyn has ever had regarding herself and her sexuality is put to bed by Jeff who focuses on her with an intensity that just drives her crazy with wanting. For Jeff, its not just a night of sex and he falls hard and fast only to face the harsh and brutal face of reality come morning when none other than Lonny strolls in.

In my opinion, Cari has done what very few authors manage to do in a novel of this length. She has taken two characters who have no inkling of the other’s existence until the night that changes their lives forever, showed sides of them that both endears and makes them unforgettable to the reader and together with that Cari has pitted them in a situation that you don’t find in the average romance novel. And that’s what made this book a winner for me and of course the out of this world scorching heat that Jeff and Karyn generates right from the very start is worthy of mentioning.

I loved Jeff’s character right from the very minute he said “Not a screamer, huh? Gonna prove you wrong.” Now, who in the world can fault the man behind that logic is just beyond me. Jeff is someone who is wary of marriage and rightfully so when his previous two marriages hadn’t worked out very well. He is the gruff and taciturn type and not much of a people’s person, but yet in my eyes, Jeff communicates just damn fine when he wants to. I loved his intensity, the way he just takes hold of Karyn and plunges his way into a world of sensuality with her that leaves both of them hungering for more of where that came from. His take charge attitude, the way he solely focuses on giving Karyn a night she would not forget anytime soon and of course the way he can find humor in those little things just made him a favorite hero of mine.

Karyn doesn’t expect her world to turn upside down when she answers the text message she receives from her husband’s mobile phone. And when Jeff turns out to be the man who proves to her in just one night how wrong she has been in neglecting herself, her wants, needs and desires the past couple of years, Karyn knows its time to take charge of her life and let go of the past and fight for all those things that she has accepted as her due. Divorce is hard and messy on anybody and doubly so for Karyn when she cannot make up her mind, when she still cannot fully comprehend the fact that 10 years of her life had just meant nothing to the man she had shared it with when he had asked for a divorce. It is her encounter with Jeff that bursts through the bubble she has wrapped herself in and it is then Karyn realizes that has a lot of “growing up” to do before she can proceed with whatever it is between Jeff and herself.

I loved the concept, the hero and the heroine and of course the neat little epilogue that Cari tucked in at the end. If you like myself are a fan of tastefully done erotic romances that deliver on the not-your-average tropes and a hero to definitely drool over; Hot Text is the novella for you! For fans of Cari Quinn, this is another little goody which would have to tide us fans over until she can publish another decadently sinful novel for us to enjoy!

He didn’t reply but by then she’d found something else to occupy her attention. His eyes.
Though she’d expected them to be as serviceable as the rest of him, they were a smoky blue-gray fringed in dark lashes. Pretty eyes. Even when he stared her down like a cop might a perp. And not just any perp. One who was heavily armed and an imminent flight risk.

She expected an easy kiss. Good, perhaps, but not intense. He seemed like a low-key, moderately passionate person. As she’d been, without the right stimulation.
Without this.
What she got was a glancing blow of lips that soon turned to a furious meshing of mouths and teeth. It wasn’t elegant. It was messy and rough and God help her, bordered on dirty.

Even when she’d fantasized, what she’d come up with hadn’t ever matched this reality. She’d never envisioned a sexy, borderline grouchy guy with a glint in his eye and an erection this tempting.

He inched in, slid out. Pumped deeper, pulled away. Just as her frustration swelled to a fuckingly epic level, he hauled her hips up, dragging her higher before he sank all the way in, filling her so completely she gasped.
Her flesh stretched, unaccustomed to a man after so long. Each thrust stirred her unspeakably. More than just her p#ssy linked with him when he slid into her. A little part of her heart did as well.

Karyn reached out to graze his jaw with her thumb, savoring the beginnings of stubble. She’d never seen her ex with stubble. Or with his mouth as deliciously soft and used as Jeff’s.
“How’d we end up here?” she asked softly, not expecting an answer.
“Luck,” he said, turning his head to kiss her palm. “Blind fucking luck.”

Soft strokes and tender words of praise might’ve made her suspicious but his rough manner helped her to trust him. What she saw was what she got with Jeff Maddox. And what she saw, she liked. A lot.

Reviewer’s Note: I just had to mention this as part of this review. I was listening to Give Me Everything by Pitbull feat Nayer, Ne-Yo while reading this  and somehow, that song ended up being one that was perfectly in sync with the events that took place in the story.

I loved the following part of the lyrics:

Tonight I will love love you tonight
Give me everything tonight
For all we know we might not get tomorrow
Let’s do it tonight
I will love love you tonight
Give me everything tonight
For all we know we might not get tomorrow
Lets do it tonight
[…]
Grab somebody sexy tell ‘em hey
Give me everything tonight
Give me everything tonight

Outspoken Angel, book 2 in the SEALs Inc. series turned out to be as awesome as I had envisioned it to be; as fabulous as the drool-worthy cover this one carries. You cannot read Leather, Lace and Rock-n-Roll, the 1st book in the series without absolutely dying to read Cameron and Max’s story, which is the reason why I ended up gobbling up their story right afterwards.

42 year old Maximilian Sterling is a retired SEAL and the owner of the top-notch security company SEALs Inc. Having spent years in the military had honed him into a well-oiled machine, someone who likes order in all aspects of his life and someone who is leery of emotions. When Max butts heads with the too sexy for her own good Cameron Michelle Tremaine who is his opposite in each and every single way, Max has a feeling that life as he had known it is about to come crashing down at his feet.

Cameron has led the sort of childhood where the importance of keeping up the family name and appearances has been drummed into her from early on. Now an interior designer and an independent working woman, it is no wonder that Cameron rebels at the very thought of another man controlling her life and her actions and that is why she continues to deny her sizzling hot attraction when it comes to Max who sets her senses afire just by that hard toned body of his alone.

Though Max tries his damnedest to steer clear of Cameron and the bulldozing effect she has on his life and emotions, all bets are off when Cameron starts receiving threats and gets stalked within an inch of her life. Max swears upon his life that he would protect her to his very last breathe and moves in with Cameron just so he can provide her with the 24/7 protection that she needs.

Any true fan of romance can guess what would happen next when the gruff and tough Max faces off with the quirky and slightly out of control Cameron in her own turf and that is exactly what happens as bit by bit and chunk by chunk Max finds his resolve & control chipped away until all he can think about and dream about is Cameron under him and over him and in anyway that involves both of them sated, sweaty and too tired to think of anything else!

Maximilian Sterling is such a deliciously tough hero on the outside and a softie on the inside. He is the type of hero you can rely on to keep you safe from the demons that rage on the outside as well as the inside and he just totally won me over with his sweet and tender nature that comes out to play when Cameron needs it the most.

Cameron is the sort of heroine that makes one smile when reading about her. She is smart, sassy and has a mouth that would tempt a man to kiss it close for all the innuendos that she so finely dishes out. When it comes to Max, though Cameron has her misgivings about him, she still cannot deny the fact that she is more turned on by Max than with anyone else in her life. When Max is around, all Cameron can focus on is how fine he looks from his bald head to all those well defined abs and how it would feel to just give into the desire that has reared its head between them right from the very start.

As the danger escalates, so does the desire between Max and Cameron which reaches its fevered pitch on which Mia delivers so fabulously on. I loved the moments of passion between Max and Cameron; again Max hitting all those buttons that begs to be pushed spot on. And I find it refreshing that Mia doesn’t waste any time when it comes to professing the feelings between the two lead characters, no playing coy waiting for the other to come out and say it; which is what happens in Outspoken Angel as well.

Romantic suspense with elements of humor, sassy banter and a tough and tender hero that just about took my breathe away; Outspoken Angel is highly recommended for fans of the genre!

Favorite Quotes

He pulled her to him and walked her backwards to the bed. Gently, he laid her back, and came down over her to unclasp the catch of her bra with one flick of a finger.
“Cameron baby,” he whispered, “the angels are about to sing.”

Max smoothed Cameron’s curls from her forehead and placed a feather light kiss there before he rolled beside her. While his heart beat a jungle rhythm, his soul remained rooted firmly inside hers.

Being the dutiful soldier he was, he didn’t waste energy on trivial matters. If something needed to be done, he did it. If something needed to be said, he said it. Honestly, bluntly and finally. And he loved her. Just because. No explanation necessary. Consequences be damned.

Requested Review: Leather, Lace and Rock-n-Roll By Mia Dymond

Format: E-bookleatherlaceandrocknroll
Read with: iBooks for iPad
Length: Novel
Genre: Contemporary Romantic Suspense
Series: SEALS Inc., Book 1
Publisher: Self Published
Hero: Jayden Hawke
Heroine: Rachel Newberry
Sensuality: 3.5
Date of Publication: September 8, 2011
Started On: November 13, 2011
Finished On: November 14, 2011

When Mia Dymond approached me with a request for review, it was Outspoken Angel, the next book in the series that actually caught my eye. Little did I know that book 1;  Leather, Lace and Rock-n-Roll would turn out to be such a fabulous read and that in order for one to enjoy the second book to the max, one certainly has to read book 1 first to become truly invested in the wonderful, quirky characters that Mia has created in this series.

Rachel Newberry is an architect, sought out by the mega-rich and constantly in high demand and uber busy, which suites her just fine. The one thing she has learnt from her painful and humiliating past is to never take her professional reputation for granted, and that is one reason why Rachel remains always in control of her emotions, especially when it comes to the opposite sex.

When Cameron, her best friend urges her to let go and attend the Jaydon Hawke concert, little does Rachel know that she is skillfully being lured by a group of Navy SEALS who are undercover and hunting down a terrorist with whom Rachel is suspected to be involved.

From the moment that Jayden meets Rachel, the attraction that simmers between them lights up the pages, drawing the reader into a world of sensual haze whenever they are together. Rachel is more than reluctant to get involved with a rock star who has hundreds of screaming and wanton women after him at each corner of the world.

For Jayden, Rachel is a lure that he cannot deny, his mission be damned. Having never had to work for a woman’s affections before, Rachel certainly throws him into a loop wondering what it is that he has to do in order to win her trust and affection. And when Rachel becomes the target of vicious attacks, all bets are off and Jayden is prepared to do everything in his power to keep her safe and in his life for all time to come.

Leather, Lace and Rock-n-Roll is such a great read and I am surprised that more people aren’t aware of its existence. Multi-faceted characters lend this story a richness that makes this such a compelling read, the heat and sensuality between Jayden and Rachel of the scorching variety; just the panty-melting kind.

Cameron’s character is one that really drew me in, and Max who is the head of the operation who constantly butts heads with Cameron just made me smile and at times laugh out loud with the sassy banter between them.

Leather, Lace and Rock-n-Roll is a diamond of a novel, with its hidden layers and multiple facets that just makes for an unbeatable reading experience. There is plenty of humor in the story, Rachel whose serious nature misleads one to think that she wouldn’t know what to do even if a joke comes and slaps her on her forehead. But the underlying sense of humor she has makes for one of the best parts of her character.

Rachel is quite vulnerable, especially when it comes to Jayden because she doesn’t think she is the kind of beauty that people would expect someone like Jayden to have in his life. How Jayden proves her deliciously wrong at every turn was what made him such a compelling and sexy hero.

Though I loved many aspects of the story, there were certain bits that could have really made this into an all out fantastic one. I would have loved to know more about Jayden for instance, his history and how he came about and his life before he became a SEAL/rock star. And though I felt that Rachel catapulted a bit too easily towards the end, Jayden does make up for everything in the best way possible.

Recommended highly for those who love romance, humor, and bits of suspense together with huge hunks of male leads in their stories and sassy banter throughout. Loved this from start to finish and cannot wait to dig into Cameron and Max’s story which is beckoning me from my bookshelves even as I write down my review.

Favorite Quotes

Rachel returned to the circle of his arms and thought she might possibly combust. Even the summer night breeze that moved the silk against her torso couldn’t cool her. Braced against her car in the moonlight with his shirt fully open this time, Hawke posed as her own personal Adonis, poised for her touch.
