If not for a request for review from Little Bird Publicity I would most probably have passed up on reading and acquainting myself with the wonderful and wholesome world that Susan Mallery seems to have created so well in her Fool’s Gold series. As I glided along into the 4th book of the series with no prior introduction into the first 3 books, I didn’t feel unwelcome but rather felt that I was amongst old friends whom I hadn’t seen in a long time, familiar and soothing in its own right that had me falling gently in love as I read along.

28 year old Dakota Hendrix is a triplet, and comes from a family of six siblings, her family being one of the first generation families in Fool’s Gold, California. Fool’s Gold is a town that has shot to fame after a student doing her thesis on human geography had discovered the fact that in Fool’s Gold there is a serious lack of men when both sexes are compared in numbers.

A PHD holder who specializes in childhood development, Dakota has no idea why she is entrusted with the job of looking out for the interests of the citizens of Fool’s Gold in the project undertaken by Hollywood’s attempt to make money out of their town’s lack of men.

When Finn Andersson with his black hair and piercing blue eyes storms into the scene demanding that his younger twin brothers Sasha and Stephen who have signed up to be part of the reality show True Love or Fool’s Gold be released from the show, Dakota has no idea that Finn would be the man to stir up her juices and get her to notice the attention her inactive libido seems to be dishing out to the sexy stranger.

Finn who hails from South Salmon, Alaska is determined that his younger brothers would not ruin their lives by setting out on a fool’s errand. Finn is a man who takes his responsibilities very seriously, some might say a bit too seriously considering the fact that he had had to grow up overnight to take care of his 13 year old younger brothers when his parents had died in a plane crash 8 years back.

When Finn realizes that the twins won’t budge from where they stand, he does the next best thing a protective older brother would do; decide to stay around in Fool’s Gold to keep an eye on them until they realize the error of their ways. However, things rarely have a way of turning out as one plans them and this is exactly what happens when Finn finds himself looking forward to staying around in Fool’s Gold, thanks to the number Dakota plays on his baser and more tender emotions.

Only Mine is not just the story of how Finn and Dakota falls in love and finds their happily ever after. Rather, its a story that intrinsically weaves together the beauty that is small town life, the wonderful togetherness one finds inside the warm circle of loving family members and friends and the realization of the hopes of a woman who dreams of holding a child that belongs to her in all the ways. It is a story that tells the struggle of a woman who wants to stand up for herself and finds love and the strength to do so in the most unexpected of places. And last of all, Only Mine shows us the beauty of a relationship that is based on sharing the burdens of life together, and that love does triumph over every other emotion in the end.

I loved a lot of things about Only Mine. First of all the soothing feel to the story that unfolded was truly appreciated. True, there were emotionally charged moments and times where I was in dire need of a tall glass of iced water to quench the heat coursing through me. But ultimately, the one thing that does shine through is the fact that Only Mine is a novel that soothes and provokes your emotions at the same time, making you feel like you are snuggled up in bed on a rainy day with a warm cup of tea right by your side.

All the characters in this story, whether they were around for the long haul or just popped up in between were endearing in their own rights and lent the story the charm that it fully exudes in spades. The secondary story of the unexpected love between Stephen and the 9 years older Aurelia certainly made things more interesting. The details and the emotions that the author fully describes about the heroine’s attempts at overcoming the limitations that PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease) imposes on her life and the way she wins over them hit close to home as I am someone who suffers from the same condition.

At times funny, charming and endearing, Only Mine is a novel recommended for those who are fans of Susan Mallery; those that love a soothing, feel-good romance with in-depth characterization and fans of the Fool’s Gold series.

Favorite Quotes

Dakota touched her (mother’s) arm. “I’m dealing. Most days it’s okay. Sometimes it’s hard to get out of bed. Maybe if I’d been in a relationship, I wouldn’t have felt so unlovable.”
“You’re not unlovable. You’re beautiful and smart and fun to be with. Any man would be lucky to have you.”
That’s what I tell myself. Apparently the entire gender is blind and stupid.”

She welcomed him, wrapping her legs around his hips and drawing him closer. Usually she closed her eyes, but this time she kept them open, watching him watch her.
They were connected. She felt what he felt, knew his anticipation, experienced the tension. As he got closer, so did she. The need for more grew until there was nothing to do but come together.
She clung to him as he held on to her. The night closed around them until it seemed as if they had always been together and that they could never ever be apart.

Review: Smooth Irish by Jennifer Saints

Format: E-booksmoothirish
Read with: iBooks for iPad
Length: Novel
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Between Your Sheets Publishing
Series: Weldon Series, Book 2
Hero: Jackson Weldon
Heroine: Nancy Miller
Sensuality: 3.5
Date of Publication: December 8, 2009
Started On: July 22, 2011
Finished On: July 23, 2011

It is a very rare occurrence for me these days to start on the next book of a series by an author before taking a break in between. However, I found myself tempted to skip my ‘rule’ and go ahead with the 2nd book in the Weldon series, to find out for myself whether the passion between the grieving widower Jackson Weldon and Nancy Miller would be as explosive in reality as I had envisioned it in my mind after practically storming through the sensuous scenes of passion in the 1st book of the series.

35 year old Jackson is the eldest sibling of the 4 Weldon brothers in Savannah, Georgia. Jackson is a man still grieving for the untimely death of his wife Amy and blames himself for her death which prevents him from joining the living world. Jackson creates for himself a rut in which he is more than comfortable in, and lets the music that runs in his soul do the rest for him. With no aim or plans in his life to pave the way forward, Jackson stumbles into each day as it arrives until he meets his sister-in-law’s best friend Nan who makes his heart beat in anticipation for the very first time since the death of his wife.

30 year old Nan is goal-oriented if nothing else and plans her life to achieve those goals which will take her further and further away from the wanting little girl who lived and grew up in a less than stellar trailer on the backside of a country road. Dedicated to her profession as a nurse, Nan rarely gives herself time to stop and smell the roses, always focused on reaching the next step of her plan.

When Nan meets the sexy as sin older brother of Jesse Weldon, her best friend’s husband at her wedding, for the first time she finds for herself the lure of sexual attraction though she makes herself walk away from Jackson and his aimless life once she finds out that there is no future to be had with the man.

Three months since she walked out on him and the memories of the feverish kisses they shared still linger on, haunting her and teasing her to taste what she never let herself fall for during the brief time they had dated. With her dreams and fantasies escalating out of control each passing day, Nan finds herself saying yes to one weekend of decadent pleasure in the arms of the one man who has the ability to turn her mind to mush and makes her body hum in pleasure.

But when reality comes knocking at the door, Nan is once again forced to face the fact that Jackson with his past haunting him is not the man for her though she may have fallen head over heels in love with him. Its up to both Jackson and Nan to want each other and love one another enough to move past beyond the shackles of the past and to face the future that would be the stuff fantasies and dreams are made of if they were to face it together.

I have to say that being still on the high left over from Jesse and Alexia’s story, I felt a tad disappointed with how Smooth Irish unfolded though this one also made a favorable impression on me. Jackson and Nan were both endearing characters whose passion for each other draws them together, no matter how much Nan tries to prevent herself from walking into disaster with both eyes open.

Jackson is a tortured hero, who hides a wealth of pain and guilt behind a facade of charm that refuses to be hidden from Nan who makes short work of opening up his wounds that have continued to fester rather than heal during the 4 years Jackson has tried to forget the pain with which he lives.

For me, the passion between Nan and Jackson wasn’t as explosive as I hoped it would be, but still Jennifer Saints has added mouth watering scenes of passion that brings out her talent in delivering the readers with sensuous scenes of love that would remain with them for a long time.

Its good to know that though this is the last published book in the Weldon Series for now, Jennifer plans on making additions to it which would be well received by its fans.

Smooth Irish is a book that goes down like a tall, cool glass of water on a sweltering hot day and leaves you begging for more!

Recommended for those who have read book 1 and are dying to get their hands on book 2; for those who love stories with tortured grieving widowed heroes and for those who are fans of Jennifer Saints who writes under the pseudonyms J.L. Saint and Jennifer St. Giles.

Get to Know My Favorite Authors – Sarah Mayberry

sarahmayberry.jpgAs most of the visitors to my blog would be well aware of, I am a HUGE fan of Harlequin romance author Sarah Mayberry. Ever since I discovered and read her Blaze title Anything For You which is of the friends-to-lovers trope which happens to be one of my favorite themes of romance, I have never looked back. Apart from 2 or 3 titles, I have read everything I can get my hands on by Ms. Mayberry and I don’t foresee that changing anytime in the future.

Since I read and reviewed an ARC of her last title One Good Reason which is to come out on the 26th of this month, and because I have been toying with the idea of doing author profiles/interviews on my blog for quite sometime now, I decided to cross into unchartered waters by requesting Ms. Mayberry to delight us all with her presence and kick-start my “Get to Know My Favorite Authors” series.

For those who may not know her Sarah Mayberry hails from Melbourne, Australia which serves as the setting for most of her romances. Recently married to her partner of 18 years, Sarah Mayberry worked as a storyliner on Australia’s longest running soap Neighbours which she credits as giving her insight into writing romances that tugs at your heartstrings. Her recent titles all belong to the Harlequin Super Romance line which delivers a lot more on the character development and in depth story telling though I do miss her super HOT Blaze titles now and then.

So without further ado, please give a warm welcome to the very talented Sarah Mayberry.

shesgotitbad.JPGMBR: Thank you so much for agreeing to do this Ms. Mayberry. Please make yourself at home right here at my little corner of the world wide web. And since you are the first author to do so, I am so excited I think I can barely control myself. LOL! So onto my first question. Did you always know that you wanted to be a romance writer?

SM: I always knew I wanted to be a writer, but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to write about. I used to make books out of folded and stapled paper when I was in primary (elementary) school, and when I left high school I did a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Writing. I was reprimanded by my fiction teacher for writing what he called “women’s fiction.” He didn’t consider this a good thing, but I did. Eventually I worked out that I wanted to write books like the one’s I enjoyed reading, and they were romances, every one of them.

MBR: Ah! I bet every one of your readers is thankful that you didn’t listen to your fiction teacher in this instance. The next question relates to family life. Similar to you, I am also the middle of three children. What was your childhood like as the middle child? Any funny childhood stories to share with your readers?

SM: My husband is also a middle child and we make lots of jokes about the over achieving middle child/overlooked middle child syndrome. To be honest, it’s hard for me to imagine what it would be like being first or last in the line up – I definitely don’t think I handle responsibility as well as my older sister, but I’m also more independent than my younger brother. I think every “role” has its up and down sides. The best story for illustrating our family dynamic is one that has been documented on one of our old home movies (this is on real film, not video, because I am THAT old!) My family are playing around on a large strip of grass in front of the local shops near our holiday house on the bay near Melbourne. My brother is a toddler, and my sister is about 5 or 6 and completely obsessed with him – she loved changing his nappies and playing mum to him. So, mum and my sister are doting on my younger brother, my father is behind the camera. I am in the background doing somersaults and handstands on the grass. At one point, my brother makes a break for it, running on his little bandy legs toward the busy road on the other side of the grassy reserve. Everyone goes after him, including my father (the camera jerks in panic but chills out a bit when my mum and sister catch my brother). I am completely oblivious in the background, still rolling around on the grass in my own little world. My brother in law has called me “monkey girl” ever since he saw this piece of film, but I think it illustrates the fact that I was often off imagining in my head while the world went on around me.

thebestlaidplans.JPG

MBR: (chuckles) Your imagination has definitely paid off in the long run as each of your books just get better and better. You have gone through a lot before settling down to write romances. What would you do differently if given the chance to do it all over again the second time round?

SM: It’s always tempting to think “I wish I’d submitted that story earlier or been more consistent in my attempts to be published”, since I worked at it off and on for about 10 years before I finally made it. But I honestly really value the experiences I had in other industries prior to becoming a full time writer. Not only did they teach me to value the freedom of what I do now, they also gave me lots and lots of fodder for my stories and an appreciation for how the “real” world works. Imagination is great, but there’s no substitute for having experienced something first hand.

MBR: Your stories are certainly “real” enough and I bet many readers would agree with me on this fact. I have mentioned at the beginning just how much I love your Blaze titles. You seem to have settled well into writing for the Harlequin Super Romance line. Does this mean that fans of your super hot Blaze titles like myself would never get to read one of them ever again?

thelastgoodbye.jpg

SM: At the moment my story brain seems to be producing Super Romance stories. If a super hot story pops into my brain, I will definitely consider writing it as a Blaze, if the senior editor would be happy to hear from me again. Or perhaps I might consider publishing it myself – it’s a whole new world at the moment with digital media, so there possibilities are out there.

MBR: Oh yes, a lot of authors seem to be venturing into self publishing. And whichever way you choose  to publish, I am sure your fans would be onboard. All your published novels to-date are contemporary romances. Most authors tend to branch out into other genres over time. Have you ever considered doing that yourself?

SM: I read romance, fantasy and a smattering of crime fiction. For many years I have had two rather epic fantasy ideas rattling around in my head. I would love to find the time to write them, but I also worry that they are so different from what I do now that there would be a huge learning curve to overcome. One day I might get around to it… I love reading historical romance, and there’s a part of me that would love to try to write one, but I don’t know that my “voice” would be suited to historicals. My next writing goal is to write a single title length book that will hopefully find a home with a mainstream publisher. Fingers crossed…

MBR: I for one am a huge fan of contemporary romances and wouldn’t be disappointed even if you continued writing just that. And the single title length novel sounds like a wonderful idea. Crossing fingers myself! So, what’s the one genre of romance you would never write?

SM: Hmmm. This is tough. Never say never, but I suspect I am not the kind of writer who excels at suspense/crime plots. My stories tend to be very character and emotion driven, and I have always found what I call “what happens next?” plotting a little bewildering. I hugely admire writers who do it well (Tess Gerritsen is a favourite – although she’s not strictly writing romantic thrillers, she used to be a Harlequin writer).

hersecretfling.JPGMBR: Have never read any books by Tess Gerritisen. I need to check out her books then. That brings me to the  next question. What’s your next title going to be about? Would you mind sharing a bit on your next release?

SM: My November release is called All They Need. This was a hard book for me in many ways – I started it four different times before settling on what story I wanted to tell. In hindsight, this was because I came up with a situation rather than two people with a story between them when I wrote my proposal. It’s an easy trap to fall into, and sometimes you only realise as you start writing the actual book that the situation you created requires your characters contorting themselves into weird and unnatural behaviors to service the story. Since I’m the kind of writer who prefers for the story to service the characters and not vice versa, I got myself into a real state. However, there was a deadline to be met and with the patience and generosity of my man and my editor, I finally found the story hidden inside all that gumph I’d spun originally. The resulting book is the story of Mel and Flynn.

Mel’s recovering from an ugly marriage to a controlling, disapproving husband. She took a lot of crap from this guy before she hit bottom and realised she needed to get out, and she’s questioning herself in the aftermath, wondering why she let herself be treated so badly. She’s lost her trust – both in other people and in her own judgement. Flynn comes from the same monied set as Mel’s ex and has always found her attractive, even though they were never very close during her marriage. He was aware of her, though, and when circumstances bring them into contact again he once again finds her very appealing. But Flynn is dealing with the sad and stressful decline of his father thanks to early onset Alzheimer’s Disease and he doesn’t think he has the space in his life to do a relationship with Mel justice. Especially since he very quickly understands that she has been wounded by her marriage. But, as we all know, love doesn’t work to schedule, and these two find themselves drawn to one another despite all the sensible voices in their heads telling them to back off. Still, Mel isn’t even close to being ready for another relationship, and she’s convinced that she never wants to marry or even live with another man again. Which leaves Flynn with nowhere to go, really. Obviously, they resolve their differences, but I don’t want to ruin things for readers!

MBR: Wow! Sounds like its going to be an emotional read. Can’t wait for November to get here. Or maybe I could read it much earlier if Harlequin were to offer an ARC on Netgalley. Fingers crossed… Next question is about the drool-worthy heroes that you write. Every single one of your heroes are so yummy! Where do you find your inspiration to create heroes that tug right at the reader’s heartstrings?

onegoodreason.jpg

SM: Honestly? My husband! He is The Best. Handsome, sexy, smart, funny, capable, kind. I am always channeling him in some shape or form when writing one of my heroes. I sometimes feel as though I have a little cartoon him sitting on my shoulder saying “a real man wouldn’t do that!” and encouraging me to let my heroes make mistakes. Men are so wonderfully different from women, and I love the way they think and the way they behave with each other. I think that all women want to be noticed by the man they love – not just sexually, but in all ways. We want him to notice our new hair cut, or new perfume, or new bra. We want him to realise when we’re flat or sad. I try to show that my heroes are into my heroines in every way – they desire them (of course!) but they also like and admire them and want to be with them. Friendship is at the core of any great relationship, and it’s what remains when the fiery excitement of the first few months of a relationship begins to settle down, so I always try to show that my heroes and heroines are friends, too. And I like to try to access the private world of doubts and fears that men hide so well from the world. I think a lot of the time we think they are cool and collected and strong, but underneath that they are just as wracked by doubts as women are. I think seeing someone’s vulnerability is very endearing, especially when you know that they’re doing their damnedest to hide that vulnerability.

MBR: Now that right there is why I love your books. The heroes do not behave like a bunch of ninnies but rather they stay true to who they are in your stories. Thumbs up to your husband and the little cartoon of him that you carry around. Based on your profile on Goodreads, you seem to read a lot of romances yourself. Who is your favorite author? And is there any author that inspires you?

SM: I have a handful of favourite authors. I love Susan Elizabeth Philips, Ain’t She Sweet being my favourite book by her. I love Rachel Gibson, too,See Jane Score being right up the top of her hit list for me. Kirstin Higgins’ Just One of The Guys is one of the books I can re-read and re-read and never gets sick of it. And I ADORE Lisa Kleypas’s books, both historicals and contemporaries, but I have to give special mention to Blue Eyed Devil and Smooth Talking Stranger. I think those last two books epitomise the sort of of single title contemporary romance I’d like to write myself – they made my chest ache when I was reading them, my benchmark for a great romance, and they were sexy and funny and smart. If I could come even close to doing that in a longer length work I would be one happy writer! I also have a big writer crush on Victoria Dahl after reading Lead Me On, and I also love Mary Balogh, Loretta Chase, Laura Kinsale and Anna Campbell.

MBR: All of the authors you have mentioned are some of my favorites as well. Love Susan Elizabeth Phillips! Goodreads and your website seems to be your only online presence at the moment. There are a lot of authors who maintain contact with their fan base through social networking mediums such as Twitter and Facebook. Is there any hope of us ever being able to find your presence there in the foreseeable future?homefortheholidays.JPG

SM: I am avoiding Facebook at the moment, but I joined Twitter last week and am enjoying it so far – it’s fun, and I love the way people can jump into the conversation. My Twitter name is MayberrySarah, and I can’t promise the most scintillating of posts, but I am trying to stay in touch with the world a little more via this medium. My website is being updated as we speak – this will be my third revamp, and hopefully a good solid one. I made the mistake of having an amateur design my first site, and when she disappeared, she took a bunch of the images from my site with her and the whole thing kind of fell apart. My sister in law designed my current site, and it’s gorgeous, but we’ve been relying on a friend to do the technical side of things since Annie is a graphic artist and not a web designer. My new neighbour, however, IS a web designer, and he does great stuff. We started working on a new site a couple of weeks ago, and he’s due back from holidays this week so I am hoping to have something up by the end of the month. Incorporated in that will be a new blog which hopefully will be hack-proof – I have been hacked 4 times by people selling illegal prescription drugs and have tried lots of things and spent lots of money trying to secure my site only to have it happen again. This it what motivated me to revamp the site again, so I am hoping to resolve a number of issues at the same time with this new take on my site. I do blog regularly over at www.superauthors.com, and I always give away books.

In general, I have to admit that I find the internet very distracting – I go to check my email and wind up spending hours looking at completely unrelated things. It’s really played havoc with my focus in the last year or so. So I try to be really disciplined about how much time I spend on the net. I even have a program which bars me from accessing the internet for a set number of hours. I find when I know I can’t get online, I really concentrate for fixed periods and am very productive. But I also love interacting with readers and other writers, so at present I am trying to find a balance that allows me to keep writing 3 – 4 books a year as well as my other work while staying in contact with the world.

MBR: Aha! Finally, I would be able to ‘stalk’ you to my heart’s content. And I mean it in the best possible way. (laughs). And am really sorry to hear about the issues you have faced with your website and blog. Darn spammers! So, what is your favorite way to spend your ‘me-time’?

SM: Sleeping. Reading. Shopping. Hanging out with my man, my family or my friends. I’m trying to like gardening more, since ours is HUGE.

MBR: Sleeping and reading I can definitely get on board with. For me, I am someone who craves the Internet and I don’t think it would be a pretty sight if someone were to deprive me of my daily fix of the World Wide Web. For you, what is the one thing you absolutely cannot do without?

SM: I have to agree with you that the internet is very damned addictive. But the one daily fix I couldn’t do without is some form of contact with friends or family. We don’t have children, and my husband works full time outside of the home, so I spend A LOT of time on my own! Things can definitely get a little cabin-feverish if I don’t make the effort to talk to people. We’re hoping to get a dog in the near future that will be great company, but definitely people are my can’t-do-without fix!

MBR: I guess I get my people-fix when I go to work 5 days a week. But I can totally relate to what you mean about things getting a bit cabin-feverish. And that brings me to the last and final question. For those who are aspiring to become writers, what would your one valuable piece of advice be?hotislandnights.JPG

SM: Keep writing and reading. When you find a book and a writer you love, read them over and over. Find a page or scene you really admire and put your writer hat on and analyse how the author put the scene together and think about how you feel as you read it and try to understand how the author has conveyed/created that emotion in you. I have had some of my most valuable writing breakthroughs doing this. Also, I learn something new from every book I write, so never expect to be able to whip a story out with the greatest of ease – writing is hard, and for me it’s very emotional and sometimes very draining. Don’t be afraid to put yourself on the page, though – if you’re not feeling something when you write big emotional scenes, then it’s hard for readers to feel it, too, I think. The bottom line is that there is both craft and talent required to make it as a writer. Learning the tools of the trade – the craft – gets you one step closer to being able to harness your creativity.

MBR: Once again, thank you so much for taking some time out of your busy schedule to spend some quality time with us. And I wish you the best of luck in all your future endeavors. Hopefully your dream of writing a single title length novel would be realized in the near future.

SM: Thanks for the support for all of us writers in general. We would be nothing and nowhere without readers.

And now for the fun part.

Review: Wild Irish by Jennifer Saints

Format: E-bookwildirish
Read with: iBooks for iPad
Length: Novel
Genre: Contemporary Romantic Suspense
Series: Weldon Series, Book 1
Publisher: Between Your Sheets Publishing
Hero: Jesse Weldon
Heroine: Alexandria Jordan
Sensuality: 4
Date of Publication: December 8, 2009
Started On: July 21, 2011
Finished On: July 22, 2011

Wild Irish is book one in the Weldon series which came to my attention when author Jennifer St. Giles tweeted about the availability of this book up on Smashwords for free. Always someone who loves a story that involves a proverbial bad boy with whom the heroine has a shared past with, I didn’t hesitate to grab myself a copy and let myself be swept away on a journey that continually suprised me with just how different this novel turned out to be from Collateral Damage, the one novel that I have read to-date by the author.

Wild Irish written under the pseudonymn Jennifer Saints who also writes under the names of J.L. Saint and Jennifer St. Giles kick-starts this romance with 29 year old Alexandria Jordan, heiress to the Jordan’s shipping empire in Savannah getting ready to say her I-do’s with a man that she feels no burning passion for. With doubt clouding her mind on her last night as a bachelorette, Alexi is bombarded with the memories of a 19 year old Jesse Weldon who had rocked her world and broken her 17 year old heart in the span of one month.

When her fiances indiscretions come to light right before the wedding, Alexi knows that she won’t be able to go through with a union strongly supported by her grandmother and father and runs, straight into the arms of the one man whom she has never forgotten in the span of the twelve years that has separated them.

19 year old Jesse with the proverbial bad boy chip on his shoulder had hesitated to take what was so freely offered to him when his and Alexi’s lives had collided twelve years back. After spendng eight years in the army, mostly in the Special Forces and now owner of his own security company, Jesse is no longer naive enough to let his heart get involved, but wild horses wouldn’t be able to drag him away from claiming the woman whose sinful mouth has haunted his dreams more times than he would like to recall.

Alexi is shocked to the bone when she lets Jesse sweep her away with the heady desire that has always burned strong between them, that makes her forget every proper thought in her head until she says yes to all the decadent ways in which Jesse can make her feel as the most desirable woman on Earth. Jesse who doesn’t believe in love and soul mates nevertheless has a hard time defining how he feels about Alexi as just plain old lust raging inferno through his body as his possessive streak a mile wide comes out to play when Alexi’s life becomes threatened by a mad man willing to through any lengths to make her his.

Filled with highly sensual content that just about took my breath away as Jesse tries his damndest to keep Alexi from leaving by binding her to him with the explosive passion they seem to share, Wild Irish is a book that I enjoyed immensely. Alexi has her work cut out for her with the stubborn Weldon genes that prevents Jesse from believing that the word permanent could be applied to their relationship. But at every turn, Jesse continually surprises her with just how right they are together, if only he would believe it for himself.

Jesse is the type of bad boy hero each woman dreams about, the type of hero that we wish would come up and drive us off into the sunset on his mean looking Harley with the wind whipping more than our hair into a frenzy. The man Jesse grows into is no less lethal, he is in fact more so with his ever abundant need to possess and keep Alexi at his mercy with every trick he has learnt in the art of seduction until now. But what makes the scenes of passion memorable is the fact that the tables turn so quickly on Jesse as Alexi assumes the role of the one in control who drives their mutual desire to a feverish pitch which makes each and every scene of passion between Alexi and Jesse unforgettable!

This is the only romance that I have heard of which came out as a graphic e-book with photos of the delicious Jesse himself with the beautiful Alexi to make things enticing. Because I couldn’t help myself, I downloaded two chapters up on betweenyoursheets.com that are available for free and I am beyond tempted to purchase the entire novel for the 10+ dollars its priced for, because seeing Jesse in all his glory is so very tempting!

Jennifer Saints has definitely surprised me – all in a good way with her ability to draw out mind numbing scenes of passion that in no way hinders the character development and the suspense potion of the novel that unfolds. I am now very much tempted to get a copy of the next book in the series that features the widowed and grieving older brother of Jesse who finds his happily ever after with Alexi’s best friend. And believe me, the pictures available on the freely available chapters just about made me hyperventilate and I bet the heat factor in their story would drive me insane before I’m through!

Highly recommended for those who love stories of bad boys and rich heiresses and for those who love highly sensual romantic suspense novels.

Requested Review: The Merzetti Effect by Norah Wilson

Format: E-bookthemerzettieffect
Read with: iBooks for iPad
Length: Novel
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Publisher: Self-Published
Series: A Vampire Romance, Book 1
Hero: Dr. Delano Bowen
Heroine: Ainsley Crawford
Sensuality: 3.5
Date of Publication: June 6, 2011
Started On: July 20, 2011
Finished On: July 21, 2011

The Merzetti Effect is a novel that caught my eye whilst I was browsing through Amazon’s book recommendations. Long before that Norah Wilson landed in my list of authors to try out after seeing a review of her romantic suspense novel Guarding Suzannah by author Pamela Clare up on Goodreads. Reading the blurb of The Merzetti Effect sealed the deal for me and to my utter surprise and delight I managed to get this little birdie from the amazing Norah herself who approached me for a review. The rest as they say is history and ever since I turned page 1 and lost myself in Norah’s unique take on the world of vampires, there was no turning back for me – ever.

Ainsley Crawford has just lost her job working as an OR nurse in a Level 1 Trauma Center and the job offer by a Dr. Delano Bowen seems like a godsend to her until she is attacked by a rogue vampire as she makes her way for the job interview. Her savior comes in the form of her prospective employer himself who makes Ainsley think the most inappropriate thoughts of them tangled in the sheets, all sweaty and naked when she fully lays her eyes on the enigmatic and compelling man with an intensity in his eyes that takes her breath away.

Delano is a more than 200 year old vampire who believes that in Ainsley’s blood lies the cure from the virus that rages inside a vampire that drives them to sate their thirst for blood. Though Delano would go to any lengths to keep Ainsley by his side and wants her to remain totally unaware of the potency of her blood on his species, the one thing that Delano never counted on was his libido to sit up and take notice of the one woman whose blood might mean the end of his life.

Undying need and red-hot desire grows stronger and binds both Ainsley and Delano together until the explosive culmination of their mutual want which kickstarts a series of events that Delano never foresaw, nearly bringing him to his knees when his old enemy comes to seek Ainsley for himself, to eradicate the one thing that could destroy his blood thirsty rampage on Earth forever.

The Merzetti Effect is an amazing paranormal romance that introduces us into a fresh take on the lives of vampires, with a few surprises thrown into the mix. Delano is a hero with whom I fell head-over-fangs in love with right from the very first encounter. His intensity, utter control which shreds to pieces with Ainsley and his devotion to do good and right the wrongs done by his species no matter what makes him one of my favorite vampire heroes. And of course I freely admit to the fact that the way he seduces and is in turn seduced by Ainsley was out of this world hot, rendering me into this puddle of goo half way through.

Ainsley is the type of heroine that earns my love and wholehearted approval because there are so many endearing characteristics that makes up who she is. Her fierce loyalty towards those she holds dear, the way she wants to comfort a two century old vampire with whom a deep connection is forged and the way she completely gives into the love that overtakes her without playing coy games is what I loved most about her.

With this novel, Norah has enticed me to want to know more about each and every character that she has introduced along the way. I will definitely be on the look out for future books in this ‘series’ and am definitely a fan of Norah Wilson if the complete and utter ease with which she drew me into the story is anything to judge her other books by. Very highly recommended for fans of vampire romances. This is one book you ought not miss!

And heaven help him, there was that pain again, the one that pierced him to his very marrow and started all that emotion bleeding out of him.
Dammit, he loved her.
He’d been denying it for weeks now, but he could deny it no longer.
Not the giddy drug of infatuation. Not the mind-blowing drive of unadulterated lust. Not the bone-deep need to possess.
It was all of those things wrapped up together, but so much more. It was simple, really. She had somehow become all that mattered.

ARC Review: Falling Hard by J.K. Coi

Format: E-bookfallinghard
Read with: iBooks for iPad
Length: Novel
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Publisher: Carina Press
Series: Standalone
Hero: Gabriel Gunn
Heroine: Amelia White
Sensuality: 3.5
Publication Date: July 18, 2011
Started On: July 17, 2011
Finished On: July 18, 2011

Falling Hard by J.K. Coi which has released today from Carina Press as I write my review is a novel that combines a well developed ethereal world which delves into the heart of an age old struggle between angels who want the ultimate freedom from the emotionless shackles that have bound them for millennia.

30 year old Gabriel Gunn has no idea of the freakish hell his life is about to turn into when he walks out of a club with his best friend and band manager David. Within minutes Gabriel lies in a pool of his own blood after watching the horrific attack on David take the very life out of him. Rescue comes in the form of a woman whose mere presence makes Gabriel feel alive, the same kind of energy he only feels when he sings. What Gabriel doesn’t know is that the woman who rescues her is an angel who has sworn to protect Gabriel at all costs, even if it means giving up her own life for the cause.

Amelia White has been tasked with the job of watching over Gabriel for the past 30 years during which time she has looked over upon the trials and tribulations that has shaped the man that stands before her now. Knowing that Gabriel’s very soul holds the key that could unlock the angel’s realm and give them the freedom that they have been stripped bare of a long time back, Amelia knows that safeguarding Gabriel is going to be the toughest mission she might have undertaken yet, as her senses start to come alive and emotions that Amelia is sure she is not capable of feeling starts pricking and poking at her to give in.

It is a journey filled with twists and turns filled with potholes that Gabriel and Amelia embark upon to find a way out of the mess Gabriel finds himself in. With rogue angels hunting them down at every turn and with Amelia’s own fears and insecurities to battle with Gabriel finds himself with more questions than answers about his mysterious guardian angel who makes him want as he has never wanted before. But that doesn’t stop him from realizing and embracing the fact that life as he knew it is never to be again as he stands in the midst of a game of tug of war between the good and the bad angels. The ultimate showdown would mean that Gabriel would have to embrace his darker side which would in turn mean his death at the hands of the avenger who happens to be the angel who owns his heart, body and soul.

Falling Hard is a book that plunged me deep into a world that had me fascinated right from the very beginning. Amelia with her sparkling beauty and the emotions that she fights so much at the beginning is a heroine who would go to any lengths to protect the man that she loves. The concept of the heroine being the protector was a novel experience which I loved, though that doesn’t mean Gabriel is a man who would willingly step aside and let a woman do all the work.

Gabriel is the perfect rock star hero material, intense, broody and energetic, a man who is buried so deep in regrets of his past that blinds him to any other emotion except pain, anger and sadness until Amelia lights up his world with her aura. It is Gabriel’s intensity that I was drawn towards right from the very beginning which was complemented by the calm serenity that is Amelia.

The passion between Gabriel and Amelia is scorching in its intensity and though not explicit in nature it had me fluttery in all the right places. J.K. Coi has certainly penned a splendid romance with paranormal elements that gives the story that unfolds an extra edge that makes this unputdownable. The ending does make me wonder whether J.K. Coi plans to start off a series with this novel as there are lots of secondary characters that I would love to know more about.

Recommended for fans of the genre and fans of J.K. Coi.

Her scent took him off guard. Spicy and sweet. Intoxicating but casual – the most dedicated virgin and the most celebrated siren wrapped up in one deceptive little package.

Her purposeful movements made him want to dig his fingers into the silk of her hair and muss her up. He vowed to be the one to unsettle her. He wanted to make her pulse hammer beneath that smooth skin and force those lips to part on high gasps of unexpected pleasure.

His soft lips felt sinful, so incredible. She moaned and Gabriel responded in kind, pressing for more, sliding his tongue over the seam of her lips before slipping inside to sweep her mouth. Again and again until she matched him, giving him her tongue so they they dueled together in a slick, sensual challenge.

His heart beat strong and fast beneath her palm. His breathing had quickened, too, blowing against her nape in short, heated blasts. “You’ve got me wound tighter than I’ve ever been, Amelia. You piss me off quicker than anyone else can. And you push every one of my buttons. I look at you and I want to make you feel the same way—edgy, uncertain and desperate.”

Review: Something to Talk About by M.J. Fredrick

Format: E-book
Read with: iBooks for iPad
Length: Novel
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Lyrical Press, Incorporated
Series: Standalone
Hero: Noah Weston
Heroine: Ellie Morgan
Sensuality: 3.5
Date of Publication: June 20, 2011
Started On: July 16, 2011
Finished On: July 16, 2011

Something to Talk About is the novel that officiates M.J. Fredrick’s position in my favorite authors list, authors that are must-buy as their stories are so very worth it. There are no blazing guns, no hair raising adventure in this as in the two novels Don’t Look Back and Breaking Daylight by the author that I have read and reviewed prior to this. Rather, Something to Talk About is a contemporary romance that nevertheless packs into it a story that any romance lover ought to read because this is a novel that swept me away on a journey towards a happily ever after that I very much rooted for right from the very beginning.

Something to Talk about takes place in the small town of Winchester Cove, California where 30 year old Ellie Morgan has ended her latest relationship with the golden boy of the town and high school football coach Trey Berenger. Knowing that she wants much more from a relationship than Trey’s self-centered nature allows him to give, Ellie cuts off ties with the man whom she had been seeing for almost a year – a personal best for her where relationships are concerned. What Ellie didn’t expect to happen upon her breakup is for everyone in town to once again start talking around corners, whispering behind her back and painting her in the same light as that of her mother who had left a husband and three children behind 14 years ago and never looked back.

35 year old Noah Weston is just starting to recover from the blow that fate had dealt him when his wife had brutally being snatched away from his life, just when they were happily anticipating a new addition to their family. Almost a year and a half had passed by and Noah was starting to notice the vibrancy that has always been part of his wife Lily’s best friend Ellie who lights up his otherwise grey world with her mere presence. Wary of a desire that seems to grow stronger rather than abate as the days go by, Noah wills himself to take a chance amidst the fanfare of small town life that supports and berates his choice to move on with his wife’s best friend.

Ellie doesn’t recall just when and how her libido and emotions had started going on instant alert whenever Noah is around but Ellie knows that its a passion worth risking her heart for if the answering fire of need that simmers in Noah’s eyes is anything to go by. As their desire explodes and makes each of them embrace new heights in a physical relationship that neither of them was expecting, other emotions start getting involved lending their relationship a fragility that could break the bonds that bind them together so very easily.

With Noah battling his fear of starting over and trusting his heart to guide him in the right path and with Ellie fighting her need to become anything but the center stage of Winchester Cove’s gossip central, both Ellie and Noah certainly lead the reader on an emotionally wrenching journey towards their happily ever after made infinitely that much sweeter because of the fact.

Something to Talk About is definitely landing in my favorite reads of this year as M.J. Fredrick completely took me by surprise with the turn of each page, bringing forth emotions that I didn’t think I was even capable of feeling. Noah Weston with his killer dimples, his intensity that can fry the brain cells of any woman and his quiet strength is a hero worth savoring and worth allowing into your dreams, yes because he is the stuff that dreams are made out of. Ellie is a heroine who made me fall in love with her because she has those qualities that makes a reader root for the heroine right from the very beginning. Beautiful inside and out with a heart that yearns for a love like her friend Lily had found in Noah, Ellie is a heroine who is willing to fight for what she believes in, even with the whole world frowning down on her.

What endeared the story most to me is the way M.J. Fredrick managed to make Noah and Ellie’s love work without sullying up the beautiful relationship that Noah had with his wife Lily, without painting Lily as the good for nothing previous wife who deserved what she got in the end. Rather than doing that, Ms. Fredrick explores the possibility that yes, you can find love in the most unexpected of places and let it be a beautiful one, untainted by a past that is beautiful in its own right. All the secondary characters in the story from the reverend to Noah’s charming nieces to the navel-pierced psychic who manages to catch the eye of the reverend all wormed their way into my heart not to be easily forgotten.

With an epilogue that beautifully ties up everything and made me grin and inwardly smile at the same time, this is a contemporary romance that is definitely worth talking about, worth your time and money and comes highly recommended from the sunny side of life.

He stepped inside and caught her fresh scent from the shower. He wanted to drop the toolbox and pin her to the wall behind the door, taste the dampness of her skin, the warmth of her mouth. He wanted to feel her hands on him, but he kept walking.

She made a small sound in the back of her throat as he slanted his mouth over hers, reining in his hunger to concentrate on the taste of her, the feel of her, the rhythm of her breath, of her heart. He wanted to absorb her, to savor her.

Every now and then he’d look her way and smile and she tumbled, just tumbled right over into love.

Reviewer’s Note: Though Ms. Fredrick didn’t request for a review, she did provide me with a copy of this wonderful romance for which I want to thank her and show her my appreciation. The fact that she gave me a copy had no effect whatsoever on my review or rating of the story.

ARC Review: Catch Me by Lorelie Brown

Format: E-bookcatchme
Read with: iBooks for iPad
Length: Novel
Genre: Historical Romance
Series: Standalone
Publisher: Carina Press
Hero: Elmer Dean Collier
Heroine: Margaret Bullock
Sensuality: 3
Date of Publication: July 18, 2011
Started On: July 15, 2011
Finished On: July 15, 2011

Set in Arizona territory in 1882, Catch Me by Lorelie Brown is an entertaining romance of the American-Western variety that fans of the genre should not miss out on. Lorelie Brown serves the reader with enough adventure, red-hot passion and a love between two strong-willed people who have no clue as to what they are in for when fate throws them together in the most trying circumstances.

22 year old Margaret Bullock, daughter of the current sheriff of Fresh Springs is at her wits end as to how to obtain money for her ailing father’s treatment. Maggie does the only thing a headstrong and willful woman who won’t take what fate hands over lying down would do – rob the only bank in Fresh Springs and leave her hometown with the intention of never to return.

Elmer Dean Collier is a man who seems to have lost his way since the loss of life as he knew it five years back. A bounty hunter who has lived on the high that each righteous kill brings lifting up the haze of anger that has shrouded him since that fateful day five years back, Dean knows that it wouldn’t be long before he loses whatever shred of humanity that is left within him if he were to continue as he has been. Tired of the constant round of killing his life has become, Dean grabs at the chance of becoming the new sheriff of Fresh Springs upon capture and return of the woman who seems to have robbed the town’s only bank.

Blinded by the need to turn his life around and attaining his one chance at redemption, Dean at first doesn’t pay heed to the mischievous, daring and headstrong woman who turns him inside out when he at last manages to find Maggie. Bit by bit, Maggie manages to chip away at the coldness that seems to have become his protective shield for so long, until all he can think about is surrendering himself to the warmth he is sure to find in his captive’s arms.

Maggie though an innocent knows when passion blindsides her that there would be no regrets for her where Dean is concerned and she is determined that they both experience what their bodies seem intent on telling them would be one tempestuous coming together. But Dean is a man not to be swayed on his mission to deliver Maggie as he has promised, a promise that seems to eat away at him as their destination draws closer, making him question whether the peace that he hunts would embrace him if he were to give up the woman who has managed to sneak her way into his heart.

Catch Me is a novel that urges the reader to turn the pages, to keep on reading to find out whether the sexual tension that simmers between Maggie and Dean is as explosive as one would hope it to be, to experience the way Dean crumbles by bits and pieces until ultimate surrender is all he can think of and to find out the secrets that seems to shroud the lives of Maggie’s father and that of the infamous banker whose less than stellar intentions nearly drive Maggie and Dean apart for good.

Dean reminded me of the type of heroes that Maggie Osborne creates, the type of hero that I immediately fall in love with, as beneath their rough, gruff and tough exterior lies a man who hurts a lot more than I can even comprehend. Maggie is the type of heroine who is feisty, sensual and giving, the type of woman who can turn a man’s well ordered life all around until he is left with only one choice, i.e. to love and cherish her till death does them apart.

With invigorating banter between Maggie and Dane to liven things up along the 3 week journey these two make from Texas towards Fair Springs and the characters that are introduced in between, Catch Me is a story that well earns its position as a great read. Highly recommended for fans of the genre.

Their lips clung and released, then came back again. His tongue dipped into her mouth and she received it with a quiet sigh of welcome.
She was sweet like apples. Sweet to the taste, to the touch, to all his senses. More succulent than anything he’d dared touch for a long time. He’d been lost in the dark, but if he gripped her tightly enough maybe she would lead him out.

Review: Don’t Look Back by M.J. Fredrick

Format: E-book
Read with: iBooks for iPad
Length: Novel
Genre: Contemporary Romantic Suspense
Series: Standalone
Publisher: The Wild Rose Press
Hero: Captain Gerard Delaney
Heroine: Dr. Olivia Olney
Sensuality: 3.5
Publication Date: August 12, 2010
Started On: July 13, 2011
Finished On: July 14, 2011

Don’t Look Back by M.J. Fredrick is going to be a hard book for me to review, not because I didn’t love the story that unfolded but rather because of just how much the story drew me in and wrapped its words around me, making me savor every emotion that it wrenched from me that I want to do this book the justice that  it deserves. Before I begin my review however, there are two things that I would like to thank the very wonderful M.J. Fredrick for. Number one being for the blog post that she published which drew my attention to this gem, and the second for being generous enough to give me a copy of this book which I appreciate from the bottom of my heart.

Don’t Look Back kicks off seven years prior to the start of the actual story when Dr. Olivia Olney is rescued by a team led by Captain Gerard Delaney from Special Forces who specializes in hostage recovery. Broken, battered, raped and barely alive, Olivia finds the strength to persevere and come out fighting by never letting go of the image of the tough blue-eyed soldier who arrived to her rescue when she had right about given up hope.

Seven years later, Olivia is a changed woman, the scars of the ordeal that she underwent which she carries with her every day. However, that doesn’t stop her from helping out the less fortunate souls who struggle to survive the depths of hell that is war riddled Africa, even if it means going back to the one place that brings back the nightmares of how she was captured and tortured at the hands of violent and vicious men.

When her best friend Jill gets taken as a hostage by the man who imprisoned Olivia and introduced her to the depths of hell, there is no stone that Olivia would leave unturned in her quest to rescue the one woman who stood by her through every single step of her recovery. When Olivia finds out that the soldier who has haunted her dreams since the night of her rescue is very much alive and living in exile in Spain, she doesn’t hesitate to pull out all the stops, even kicking Delaney where it hurts to get him to lead their rescue operation.

Delaney is a man who has been stripped bare of everything, a man with nothing left to lose who remains in hiding, fearing for the life of his son and his ex-wife whom he has left behind. Three years of merely existing comes to an end when the sexy and vibrant Olivia sashays into his life, opening up the wounds that have been quietly festering all this while. Olivia forces Delaney to confront his fear of failure and his reluctance to go back to a country that has already taken too much from him and left him high and dry.

Making their way to Amadan, a jungle-choked country with very poor roads begins their journey towards endless violence and danger which seems to lurke amidst every step they take. But the biggest threat comes not from the danger to each of their lives but rather that to their hearts when desire races like a raging inferno through both of them until there is no choice left but to surrender.

Combining sizzling sexual tension, toe-curling passion, heart pounding adventure and vicious war lords whose agendas change as swiftly as that of the colors of a chameleon, M.J. Fredrick earns herself 5 solid stars for penning such a fantastic romantic suspense that ALL fans of the genre must read. Bringing together two souls who have already seen the worst life can offer, but still has the courage to stand tall, both Delaney and Olivia are heartwarming and endearing characters that I fell in love with right from the very beginning.

In my opinion, the fact that M.J. Fredrick portrays the story in gritty and realistic terms to the very last detail made this earn a spot from my favorite reads for this year. Raw and honest in the gut wrenching emotions that it brings forth, heartbreaking in the details of the rape and torture that is part of every day life for women in the region, Don’t Look Back is a novel that has got it all. If a well-balanced romantic suspense with a bit of dark edge to it is what you want, don’t hesitate to pick this one up and let yourself be taken away on an intense adventure that would have you biting your nails before halfway through!

To compensate, she took a deep breath and found herself with a noseful of Del-scent. Something about the sharp smell of him, lying beneath what might be Old Spice, made her want to bury her face in his throat and breathe him in.

Words escaped him. All his energy was in controlling his desire. He had no business looking at her, no business wanting to run his fingers through her hair, to bring her body against his and warm her with his kisses. He was the last thing she needed in her life.

Review: Tempting the Enemy by Dee Tenorio

Format: E-booktemptingtheenemy
Read with: iBooks for iPad
Length: Novel
Genre: Paranormal Romantic Suspense
Series: Resurrection, Book 1
Publisher: Carina Press
Hero: Pale Rysen
Heroine: Jade-Scarlet
Sensuality: 4
Date of Publication: June 14,  2010
Started On: July 11, 2011
Finished On: July 13, 2011

Tempting the Enemy is my first taste of Dee Tenorio’s ability to spin an incredible tale in the paranormal romantic suspense genre. Book one in the series entitled Resurrection, Dee introduces us into a world of shape shifters and a fascinating breed known as Sibiles who have different kinds of abilities together with a history of bad blood between themselves and the wolf shifters.

Pale Reysen is an Alpha who has sworn to create a safe haven for wolf shifters whose vast numbers have rapidly declined since humans had started hunting them down. Part of the Violent Crimes Division at the Moonridge Police Station where the chase is on to find a serial killer dubbed as the Woodsman by the media, Pale is as ecstatic as someone waiting on deathrow when their captain announces that a Sibile would be helping them on their race against time as the dead body parts continue to pile up.

When half-Wolf and half-Sibile Jade-Scarlet walks into his police station bringing with her the undeniable scent of a Wolf female in Heat, Pale nearly loses it as his Wolf growls, pricks and pokes at him to unleash the beast so that it can claim its rightful mate. However, the fact remains that having being once betrayed by her kind, Pale would never have a reason to let Jade in nor give into the hunger that seems to shred his insides to pieces.

Jade is a Wolf who has too long denied her animal side, having lived with The Order ever since her parents were killed. A Sibile whose abilities lie in being able to hunt down emotional signatures left behind, Jade however has a hard time keeping her mind on the mission of uncovering the identity of a vicious killer as all her instincts scream at her to lay down and offer herself to the Wolf that seems to unleash such violent desire within her.

Bound by a need neither can deny, both Jade and Pale learns to trust one another as they are forced to spend time together chasing a killer whose nefarious intents when it comes to light sends cold dread racing through Jade’s insides as she realizes what it is she must do in order to rid the world of a mad man who would stop at nothing in his quest to belong. With the future shrouded in uncertainty, Jade gives herself up to the Wolf she will mate with for life, knowing that in the end that they would both have to go their separate ways regardless of how much they would be giving up by forcing themselves to walk away from one another.

Tempting the Enemy is a story that combines a fantastic paranormal world and delivers edge-of-the-seat suspense together with a passion that is scorching enough to render you into a puddle of goo. From the start, the intense connection between Jade and Pale never lets up and the killer’s cunning plans which ties along neatly with Jade’s appearance rendering this a well balanced paranormal romantic suspense.

Pale is a broody and mouth-wateringly sexy hero whose possessive streak is a mile wide, his protectiveness an undeniable facet of him that endeared him to me from the start. Jade is the type of heroine I have come to accept and love when it comes to books by Dee; loyal, feisty and vulnerable with a core of steel that doesn’t let anyone run roughshod over them. Each of the characters introduced along the way held my riveted, undivided attention, marking them off in my mind as future candidates who should receive their own stories in this series somewhere down the  line.

Highly enjoyable, Tempting the Enemy is recommended for fans of paranormal romantic suspense and fans of Dee Tenorio who have yet to find out the amazing things she can do in this genre.

He turned his head toward the open double doors across from his desk, inhaling a deep breath. A new scent drifted to him, distinct from the usual grime and wear inside the department. Warm honey. Cloves. Citrus soap under the light salt of sweat. Female.

“You are what I want.” Did he even know the way his eyes glowed when he watched her? That when his voice was so gruff, she could feel it and all the longing he had in it? That he was stealing parts of her heart with every word? “I want all of you. For always.”

Pale circled the bed and picked her up in his arms. Her cheeks turned his favorite shade of red as he kissed her, his heart full of so many things he couldn’t say. Not yet. So he kissed her again and felt the rest of his soul become hers.
